Once again worth remembering there are more than just two countries in the world.

Absolutely so.

And a lot of them are a lot more repressive in such things than either the US or the UK tbh. I would hope that none of them make such claims to superiority of society in various channels as the US does, though.

I'm guessing you can't vote in general elections.

I'm guessing homeless Spanish people probably can't vote in them either without a fixed address, so I'm not convinced this is evidence that Spain are looking after their own citizens above migrants which is how the conversation started after all

It's an example of how you're treated differently from Spanish citizens, which was your question. But yes, the discussion has gone off on something of a tangent from the original post.

Seems it’s the dogs that are racist

Dog-free zones needed in countryside to tackle racism, Welsh government told

Maybe they meant rabies but it got lost in translation?

Diversity isn't always a good thing, particularly when conflict is involved from different cultures.

I'll let you know after Christmas lunch at my house, 21 people, 6 nationalities, ages from 10 to 94.  It went ok last year!

Christmas markets are overrated.

I think like a lot of Christmas stuff, it’s something to do/look forward to in the winter. I find the winter horrible to my mental health but Christmas and doing Christmassy things gives me something to focus on. Once it gets to January and February, after new years I always find it brutal.

This is very true. I always like to try and book events or a holiday for January or February, giving me something to look forward to or focus on.

Quite possibly.

Just literally read the comments on X/Twitter about some 900-year old market set to be closed down, and some are already unnecessarily blaming/pointing the fingers to other cultures as the reason for the decision..

That's sad, used to walk through the market on my way to work every morning at around 7.30am just as the market was shutting. Also after midweek beers post midnight and used to have a look through the stalls. A cool place full of history.

No idea what other cultures have to do with it closing, it is absolute prime central London real estate. Owners will knock it down and build luxury flats for mugs to rent at £3000 pcm or office space.

That's a fairer take then.

Tbh given the state of public services I'm honestly not sure what the best direct course of action is to get the fiscal resources needed for them - just a little amusing to see these luminaries of the hospitality industry pretend to give a shit about the people they employ.

A fairer thing to do would be to not allow any company providing public services like energy, water, health etc to make a profit.
