Graham Potter, Ostersunds FK - would you take a gamble?

His kind of tale and the idea of helping an unknown manager achieve is something I find a really attractive prospect, especially given the way we built up our title-winning squad. That said, I was hoping everything would work out with Shakey for similar reasons.

I'd interview him first and see how much he impressed at the interview. I'd maybe even consider taking him on with an older statesman  type manager to be alongside side him until the end of the season, someone like Hiddink perhaps.

His CV ticks about every box for me apart from experience at this level. For those that are unaware of him:

He's now 42 but played for 10 years mainly at Championship level for Southampton, West Brom, Birmingham and Stoke.

He took over a 4th tier Swedish side in 2011 and since then they have got promoted to the top division, won the Swedish Cup and he now tops his Europa League group which contains Atletico Bilbao and Hertha Berlin. He also knocked out Galatasaray in the qualifying round.

He has a degree and a masters in leadership and emotional intelligence. So he sound very intelligent and and educational background in dealing with people.

With that profile he has potential to be a world class manager on the face of it.

Just concentrate on getting that kitchen clean without waking the baby...you mustn't let your mind wander like this......

Personally do not think you gamble with our premiership survival - it took too long to get here and looking at the turmoil it would cause could easily lead to another time in the wilderness.

I appreciate any appointment is a gamble but we should be attractive enough to find a quality manager who can make this reasonably talented squad perform - however, we do need someone that will devise an identity and push through all levels of the club and into our recruitment policy which is not an easy task so experience with some record of achievement would be a pre-requisite so I think that rules out any punts like this fella.

Done an incredible job where he is, FM type stuff, but Christ that would be a step up. That said, I'd rather take the gamble that he's quality than getting someone like Pardew who we know is shite.

Nope. We are not established enough by far to take a giant risk like that

He's already got a team assembled that are currently 4th in the Swedish league and top their Europa group after knocking out high profile teams like PAOK Salonika and Galatasaray in the qualifying stages. All on a a miniscule budget no doubt which is probably less than the majority of League One clubs. http://www.livescore.com/soccer/europa-league/group-j/

It's nothing short of miraculous what he's achieved and looking at his masters degree and what it's in just looks like he knows how to get the best out of people. He won't be there much longer methinks.

Interesting proposition to be fair, I doubt he's on our radar though. I hadn't heard of him till reading this thread so I doubt anyone at the club are aware of him haha.

No denying he's done incredibly well but would like to see him prove himself somewhere else before he comes to us, with all the money and our longterm future at stake

I'm not saying we should just appoint him but if it was my decision I'd give him the chance of an interview and for him to do a presentation to impress.

If his interview and presentation went as well as his CV then I'd consider either giving him the job outright or work alongside an older experienced manager for the rest of the season with the intent of him getting the job full time next season.

I live in Sweden and have seen ÖFK twice live this season playing my team here (Sirius), the first time was up in Östersund and they looked solid but a little unspectacular, they should have won their star player missed an absolute sitter but it was 0-0. When they came to Uppsala they utterly battered us, they were amazing won 5-0 and both Ghoddos and Sema, who are their best players, were just amazing.

What Potter has done at ÖFK is very impressive, he is tactically versatile, likes to play with fast attacking wingers and in a 4-4-2 which of course could suit us and he isn't afraid to make big decisions. They played Bilbao off the pitch the other day which is amazing, he would fit in quite well at the club from a purely tactical point of view. He also likes to develop a culture, at ÖFK they do a cultural team performance every year like putting on a play which is very cool. He came into ÖFK when they were in a real spiral, they were just relegated to the fourth tier and taking them to the Europa League is really special. They have some 'iffy' off pitch practices but that's down to the chairman rather than Potter.

He is also quite loyal having turned down a lot of 'bigger' clubs in Sweden like Gothenburg and while I do think he would probably be very tempted I think he wants to ride out the Europa League adventure since they look, amazingly, like they might make it out of their group. I genuinely don't know if he would leave right now.

I also am not sure if he is ready for the PL to be honest, he's only managed one team and the Swedish league isn't the best in the world but I do think, one day maybe, maybe even in the summer after some more Europa League experience he might be ready.
