There was a moment in the first half when he did a little feint and took the ball past Dembele (I think).

Looks so simple but takes immense awareness to pull off.

He's a gem.

It's signings like his that make me still believe we still have some stars in our scouting team... maybe even the stars that weren't allowed to take credit for previous head of recruitment successes?

I'll be honest, I was ready to throw a strop there. It looked for all the world like he would be dispossessed and Spurs be in on goal, then that happened.

It literally got me on the edge of my seat :D Great stuff

Iborra, Ndidi and Maguire are all on the to-do list, will try and get them worked up asap, just hard finding the time these days! And Puel of course

:schmike:

Pascal's isn't appearing on the emoticon list tho. Just sayin'

Not clever enough to clip this into a gif, but you can see it around the 27:50 mark here.

At least that's the one I think it is. There's another with Dembele a few minutes later.

Legend thanks mate

you can tell on the pitch how good he is tbh, the way he just seems to glide across the pitch so effortlessly,

not even breaking into a sweat and makes some of the tougher passes and tackles look easy, atm hes easily a key player in the team, another leader on the pitch and hes bringing out the best in Ndidi too

Class player, can see him being held in the same regard as Cambiasso.

I was just about to post the exact same thing.

Similarly to Cambiasso he lacks pace but often makes up for that with his intelligent reading of the game.

You can tell that he's played a better standard of football throughout his career.

He's calm in possession, a leader when we have not got the ball and organises others well. When he is in possession he keeps it simple with 1 or 2 touches & then moves into space to make an option for the player he's just passed it too. He also dictates the speed of the build up play well. Classy.

Hats off to Macia for getting him here.  I would never have believed someone that big would have the legs to play in a 2, but he just about does, and then he uses that size and strength to excellent effect.

When he was coming through his coaches must have spent a fair while trying to work out what his best position is, because he could play anywhere centrally, from front to back.

Did you know he agreed terms with Sunderland last January but the deal fell through because Sevilla wanted to keep him for the rest of the season? Fairly incredible that someone that good could have ended up playing for one of the most turgid sides in Premier League history. (No disrespect to Sunderland, but the Moyes team that went down were really poor, even if they did beat us at their place)

He's a 29 year old captain of three time in three seasons winners of the Europa League, adored by their fans. I think it's fair to say it was obvious he had quality, the questions were whether he would fit our system and be able to step up to the premier league.

I don't think it's that obvious it took you months to realise he wasn't terrible.

No, it took seeing him play to know whether he was capable of playing in our system and in this league.... exactly like I just said. My worry when he signed were based purely on his ability to play in a 442,  the games I'd watched for Seville he was quite plodding when playing at the base of a midfield 3, but his quality on the ball was never in question by anyone was it?

Completely understand your point there, just when you put it like that you wonder why those a little higher up didn’t take a punt, I think he’d be perfect for someone like Liverpool in there holding positions.

So I guess I was saying what did we see that others didn’t.

Great buy anyway, I love how he always try’s the killer pass, to the point where I can forgive it not coming off occasionally

I can't be arsed to trawl back through your posts so apologies if I'm wrong but I seem to remember you being a lot harsher than that in pre season. I can vaugely remember you trying to say he is no better than king or Mendy.

Which is fair enough we can all be wrong about a player. But to be that harsh then refuse to give the scouting/dof any credit for signing him saying anyone could see he's a good player (except you) smacks of hypocrisy.

Scouts are supposed to dig talents whom are still under the radar and by definition not already acknowledged as established players.

Ibora won three Europa leagues in a raw, not what you would call a scout target.
