Keith Weller has to make the list, problem is that was a long time ago and I'm sure there must have been some fantastic midfielders in the 1884 - 1970 era but no one remembers them which makes this thread more than a bit subjective.

Just a reminder Davie Gibson played 280 games for us, scoring 41 goals.. He was a midfield maestro and had to play on quagmire pitches back in the day!

And on rare occasions he had to cover for Alan Woolett......

I think you are overhyping, or at least taking something away from the other two by saying his dirty work allowed the other two to do their stuff.

He contributed, of course. But those two were performing at a good level long before Savage set foot in the team. They were quality whether Savage, Parker or Taylor were playing the middle with them.

Then again, to give another perspective on Savage, he was also very influential in a reasonably successful Blackburn side when he left us.

I thought he went to Birmingham lol

Kevin MacDonald oozed class. Gerry Daly, for a short period of time, made a big impression in a sort of Cambiasso-type of way as he led us to promotion under Gordon Milne.

Bobby Roberts.  Gave good protection sitting in front of Graham Cross and John Sjoberg.

Kante - how can he not be rated as the best holding midfielder to have ever played for anyone, let alone us.

Cambiasso -pure class oozed from this player.

Lennon - hard as nails, allowed Muzzy to do his stuff.

Izzet - an absolute joy to watch. Also such a genuine block. I met him a number of times through my work, top man.

And  if we keep N'didi for a few years I think he will become a legend. He is still very young and he is improving every month. Playing alongside Iborra is really helping him.

And what about Keith Weller :- ) ??

Obviously some of this depends on the age of the member posting, I have seen some very good players in the City shirt.......and some not so good!..but I just had to register to make sure one of the greatest ever is recognised and that player is the wonderful Davie Gibson....an absolute artist with a football. I remember going to Middlesborough in 1963 and at half time Davie came out 5 minutes early for the second half and he flicked the ball onto the back of his head & walked round & round the centre circle doing "keepy uppy"........even the Boro fans were applauding.

He has to be in there with Kante,Mcallister,Drinky, and Jon Sammels........there are of course others to be mentioned but Davie HAS to be in there!

Iborra and Ndidi or even Silva could knock Drinkwater off the list after a season or two.

This would also have to say Parker has a shout

Though mentioned this to my Dad who has been following the City

since the 1940s and he just laughed and said Dave Gibson was better

than any of the above. Any of the pensioners on this forum remember Gibson ?

Yes I AGREE WITH YOUR DAD

From my Foxes watching days (since mid 80s):

Kanté

Izzet

Cambiasso

Draper

Lennon

Interestingly, three of those only played with us for a year.

On the fringes of the top 5 would be Parker, Drinkwater, Steve Thompson and I would actually bracket Andy King up there - he gets stick (including from me) and is reaching the end of his career, but for a couple of seasons at least he was sensational.

Obviously, I’m excluding wingers and secondary forwards like Mahrez.
