If a player get's retroactive discipline for clear and deliberate diving, they shouldn't be fined or suspended. Instead they should be required to wear a bright red/pink/orange (whatever contrasts with the kit colour) headband with 'diver' across the front for the remainder of the season. This will serve to alert officials to 'keep an eye on this one', and also be a complete wind up for any sponsors wanting to use their matchday images :D

To me it looked no different to the Willian free kick on the edge of the box at the end. Player leaves his leg in the way, other player clips the leg and goes down. Both are dives.

Christiansen put his leg out early. Mahrez could have avoided it but chose to allow contact. Correct decision is probably what was given - no foul but no card for diving. (Pens have been given for this, but would be considered soft at the very least).

What concerns me is the inconsistency. Iborra similarly sticks his leg out early, attacker could easily avoid it but decides to manufacture contact, gains a free-kick that could have given them the win.

I see very little difference between the two situations.

... oops ... see York is has made exactly the same observation at exactly the same time as me  ...  some coincidence!

... except that I see it as "no dive" because defender did unwisely stick leg out and there was contact  ... small margins.

Defender sets his position and doesn’t move - attacker needs to avoid him or he is seen as initiating contact,  Iborra moves his foot across after Willian changes direction. Had Christiansen done that then it would have been a pen. funny thing is, whilst I don’t see it as a pen, anywhere else on the pitch and a free kick is given. Had he actually given a spot kick then i suspect Riyad may have got away with it as his front foot collides with the knee as he moves right.

The end result here is that riyad Riyad needs to be careful about getting a reputation as he/we will miss out on genuine spot kicks

Shame he went down because he literally strolled past Christiansen and would of been in a great position to score.

There’s definitely contact there but Mahrez forced it. I’ve seen them given before.

Right decision reached by the Ref. It was an attempt to con. Mahrez did throw his leg into the defender. Don’t like seeing it myself, but would have taken the pen and 3pts in a heartbeat.

Seriously..who gives a fuch about the dive when he was the best player on the pitch. It isn't  even a dive ffs there was a contact

He tried making it look like it was a foul by planting his foot into him. Does that count as a dive? Probably. Certainly tried to manufacture a foul through deceit. Sad thing is he was in full flow and could've easily skipped around Christensen and would've had a great chance of scoring.

I have a certain amount of sympathy with forwards. How many times are they fouled when they have an opportunity to score and get nothing. In a way, that leads to many of the 'dives' we see on a weekly basis.

What I've never really understood, is forwards going over when they are actually clear of the defender and have a good opportunity to stick the ball away. Unfortunately, this seemed like one of those episodes.

I do also think that Riyad gets judged more harshly on here than most at times, which is unfortunate.

Simulation or non simulation, I don't ever want him to leave our club.

I think he just did what many would do in that situation and make the most of what contact there was.

Christensen didnt tackle him as such it was a blocking movement and mahrez then made contact so it was initiated by mahrez but nothing different to many examples in other games. Its not a flat out "dive" but definitely not a penalty.

VAR couldnt clear that up if it was given though. You couldnt say the referee made a "clear and obvious error" if it was given

Haha that's a brilliant idea! lol  Alternatively if one's a 'hard case' (think Robben, Ronaldo, Suarez, Ashley Young etc) he should wear one of these

It's a good job we don't have VAR, because half the fun of football is arguing about who's right and who's wrong.

Knowing the people that run football in this country I doubt VAR will remove that.

Are they going to start booking players when a ball goes out of play for a throw in and they are contesting it came off the opposition player when it blatantly didn't next?

Definitely dived. Stupid thing is had he won the pen he could have been done retrospectively. No sanction now. I love the guy but he tried to cheat today and not for the first time.

Not sticking up for cheats but maybe he saw all the Chelsea Dives and tumbles all go un challenged by Mike Jones he probably thought well if they can get away with it ??

If he would have stayed up and scored that goal, it would have been worth at least another 10M! That moment was a shame because he was clear through to the goal off a wonderful play; still, it was great to see him outshine Hazard all day.
