Leicester ready to start transfer battle with Manchester City and Arsenal with fresh bid for West Brom's Jonny Evans

  • Leicester will restart their bid to sign Jonny Evans after a failed summer offer
  • The West Brom defender is wanted by Manchester City and Arsenal as well
  • Evans is understood to favour a move to City to keep his family in the north west

Leicester City are ready to spark another transfer scramble for Jonny Evans after reviving their interest in the West Bromwich Albion centre-back.

Leicester, Manchester City and Arsenal all had bids of up to £25million rejected by West Brom last summer, but the 30-year-old Northern Ireland international looks almost certain to leave The Hawthorns in this transfer window.

Evans is understood to favour a move to City, which would mean he could keep his young family in the north west.

However, despite talks between West Brom and City’s director of football Txiki Begiristain, the Premier League leaders have yet to make their move with 13 days to go until the window closes.

Evans would also be open to a move to Arsenal even though it would mean having to uproot to London.

The Gunners have been preoccupied this week with negotiating Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s move to the Emirates as part of the deal to sell Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United, but interest in Evans is expected to intensify in the coming days.

That is likely to leave Leicester in third place in the queue for the former Manchester United defender, but they have ambitions to break back into the top-six and believe Evans is the calibre of player who can help them achieve that aim.

West Brom have lined up 6ft 4in Egypt international Ali Gabr as a replacement, initially on loan from Zamalek, as they look to sell Evans to finance a £25m-plus deal for a new striker.

It’s understood that Liverpool duo Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings, Watford’s Troy Deeney and Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic have all been discussed.

£25mil+ for a 30 year old West Brom defender. I don't think he's bad at all but no-one's telling me that's the best we're getting with that kind of money.

Wait a mo’ how long has West Brom been in the North West?

Yeah his 40min drive for 70k+ a week must be a killer.

Comparable player to Dragovic, both reasonably mobile, similar build, decent but not spectacular on the ball and Dragovic is 4 years younger.

Dragovic - £15m (ish)

Evans - £30m

Signing players from other premier league clubs generally is daft as they can hold out for big money.

English players from EPL clubs are a premium price, which means we need to find players from lesser leagues. Evans is top dollar for a thirty year old  CB.

I agree that if Man City and Arsenal are serious about him, we don't have a chance. However...

If we want to keep our best players, let's show ambition and try. Mahrez and Vardy might give it one more year if we want to buy the best.

Sign Drago in summer. Leave Johnny alone.

Can’t we just have both?

I think it means he still lives in NW and commutes to WBA. Playing for Arsenal would mean a real move.

<inserts obvious he’s not English, he’s Northern Irish comment here> No big deal calling someone from NI, “English”

If Man City have cooled then they must have other targets .........

if we are still interested then then we might be preparing to lose a player in the summer .........

just saying ................

rather us sign Dragovic tbh, while I dont doubt or interest in him, can imagine this is all a game in a way to spark a transfer battle between Man City and Arsenal, since id personally be surprised if Evans did come here tbh

Football rumours really are crazy. So we’re selling the irreplaceable Vardy for the same price we’re signing a half decent  West Brom centre half?!?

its pointless us being linked again.... Evans lived in Manchester for years when he was at utd... he will sign a 4 year deal be on 100k a week and retire up their. easy for him.
