Leicester City’s opportunity to build a lasting legacy from the most successful period in its 134-year history becomes clearer today, as the Club publishes its financial results for the year ending 31 May, 2017.

The earning potential afforded by the Club’s first appearance in the UEFA Champions League helped yield record pre-tax profits of £92.5m (2016: £16.4m) – the long-term reinvestment of which, under the guidance of the Srivaddhanaprabha family and its King Power Group of Companies, will be a catalyst in the Club’s growth and its pursuit of further sustainable success.

Turnover for the year increased to £233m (£128.7 in 2016), owing largely to the Club’s outstanding performance in progressing to the UEFA Champions League Quarter-Finals, further than any other English club that season. The addition of European competition to the fixture schedule also boosted ticket revenue by 42 per cent, despite a third consecutive year of frozen Season Ticket prices.

The 2016/17 campaign was also the first of the Premier League’s improved three-season domestic and international broadcast contracts to 2018/19.

This allows us to make further long-term investments in outstanding players and key personnel; infrastructure to strengthen our operations and services; and world-class facilities such as our proposed new training facility in Charnwood – all of which will aid the Club’s continued growth for generations to come - Susan Whelan LCFC Chief Executive

Greater investment in the playing squad in the shape of transfer fees and improved contracts contributed to a 59 per cent increase in operating costs to £65.5m (2016: £41.3m). The Club invested £102m in player registrations, which was partly funded by a £38m profit on player trading.

Leicester City Chief Executive Susan Whelan said: “Securing a legacy for the Club’s recent achievements is among our greatest responsibilities, as it will be the platform from which Leicester City can grow and achieve further, sustainable success in the future. It is central to King Power’s vision for the Club and the determination of the Srivaddhanaprabha family to reward our fans for their immeasurable and unconditional support.

“Fundamental to that legacy is the commercial consolidation of the opportunities success has afforded the Club. This allows us to make further long-term investments in outstanding players and key personnel; infrastructure to strengthen our operations and services; and world-class facilities such as our proposed new training facility in Charnwood – all of which will aid the Club’s continued growth for generations to come.

“As with the on-pitch achievements of which these financial results are a consequence, we remain realistic about the immediate likelihood of them being repeated, but are determined to make sure their impact strengthens our aspirations and belief in the future for Leicester City Football Club and our consistent growth and success on and off the pitch.”

Wages at £65m is quite surprising actually, I was expecting far more than that.

BBC reported

"The latest period, which saw wages rise 34% to £92.3m, also includes the dismissal of title-winning manager Claudio Ranieri"

That's a sweet little payout. Will include Shakespeare too, surely.

Which is exactly what I was expecting ha ha. Guessing the Mercury have the wrong figures, or phrased it badly.

Good to see a lot of the champions league money arriving at the bottom line.

Hopefully much of it will go into longer term investment rather than just the team as may be a while before that windfall is repeated.

Looks like the new training facility will each the vast majority up, surely?

We've already spent at least half of it. Iborra, Silva, Maguire, iheanacho.

Factor in the teaining ground and moat of that will be gone.

Even if we finish 7th, with wages likely to now be north of £100m, we're unlikely to be turning huge profits any more. Perhaps  the £10-£25m region.

I think anyone who expecting loads of expensive transfers will be in for a shock. Players will have to go out to fund any big moves.

It'll be Mahrez that funds any big transfers for sure.

£92m profit is huge amount compared to other clubs is it not?

92mil profit On turnover of 234 mil it suggests the cost base is 142mil

The previous years income was 128mil .... so we shoukd be about break even this year.  We can sustain a cost base of about 135mil

Shows you how good our owners are. Absolutely love that most of this profit is going into a state of the art training ground, as it’s a long term investment.

Wonder what the summer holds as this suggests we could have been more outlandish with our signings. Mahrez will go so we are going to need some real quality coming in.

I also love that we’ve called out getting into Europe again. Qualifying consistently should be our goal from here on out!

how does 5 gate receipts from CL= 42% rise in ticket revenue

Do they not include season ticket sales in ticket revenue?

Great results but they're nearly 12 months old now.  We'll have the additions to the squad in the Summer having a negative effect on this years figures with only Maguire making an improvement.

We really need to move players on and make room for new players coming in. I'd like to see at least 6 or 7 moved on and 3 or 4 quality signings being brought in. Then use the emerging talent in the 23s to supplement the squad.

All well and good saying we are going to invest heavily in players, but we keep spending big on dogshit so it's not that encouraging a prospect.

Basically I sold my house/kidneys/arse and spent it all on half and half scarfs.
