Riyad Mahrez. One of City’s best ever players. Should he stay or go?

While He is still Here, this dithering ol'man,is spooling Back to those years as a 11-13yr old Kid,

and dream that He and Puel, have Made a secret pact thats going to suprise us all.

I am using that great Celebration from Saturday, and ask the illogical question...

Which real top 1-4 Club, around the world actually needs him,or ask which team, would

believe He is an exceptional Asset, worth Forking Out 70mil quid, for a Covering Player, with No

Guarrantee of consistent 1st Team football.

Then the next question, which Clubs can Up His salary, and He accepting guarranteed only  3-6 place,

but give him and Family a new adventure,Foreign or UK.

I dont See MC,coming in again. He'd be an Asset for Manutd,Liverpool an extra strong String

For Klopp Courthino alternative and cheaper.Chelsea,No guarrantees with their managerial roundabout.

Arsenal lost in a System of Tippy-tappy Football. He could deliver Pochi's Spurs the title.

He should stay on the Soar-Riviera,Open Up a French and Algerian school, and Gourmet Restaurant.

Get His Kids to learn Cricket. Encourage Algerian Family  Exchanges.Time

To settle down Riyhad. You helped to Put us on the map,Help to Keep us there.

Dont leave.. be-Couscous,but stay while you can.

I had no issue in letting him go, my issue was with the timing. If a club comes in that meets the valuation we have of him, then he can go and we'll treasure the memories of such a wonderful player.

I however have almost nil confidence in our ability to adequately replace though.

as has been the case for about 3 years since it was obvious that he was too good to play for us, if someone offers something close to what he is worth then he can go and make the most of his career. if clubs keep offering joke amounts then I don't think we should sell him, regardless of how "little he wants to be here". a narky, underperforming mahrez is pretty much still our best player most weeks.

once a good enough offer comes in he gets a hero's send off, he's the best player this club will ever have and fully deserves to play for a top, top team, win leagues and cups and champions leagues year in, year out.

Saying a player is "too good for us" is the kind of attitude that will never move us to the next level.

No player is "too good" for any team. If clubs don't sign better players or hang on to one's they cultivate, how are they to progress?

Or perhaps we should just be happy with the occasional glimpses of talent that the "big" clubs tolerate for us to briefly have, before they move in a take it away?

We should know our place? Yeah, right! Screw that!

And that's what kills me! The management could have done better, A lot better! But instead we kept wheeling and dealing instead of getting proper players to compliment him. He's now 27 and doesn't have time to invest his prime years in a project that isn't ambitious and can't wait for gray, diabate, ndidi and maguire to become world beaters.

He's in the eyes of most football fans the best player outside the top 6. The only player that can be compared to him when you look at the body of work is hazard and in the last 3 season (including this) he has 1 goal and 10 assists more than the world class hazard.

This for me is the crux of it. I think we're as much to blame for how much we ****ed up in the summer of 2016 and it's finally beginning to hit us. We only held onto him last summer because of how crap we'd been (and with that he was viewed as a gamble) although this window just gone, I'm surprised we held onto him.

He'd have stayed here if we'd kept recruiting properly.

And if we don't form some kind of structure into our recruitment again, we will dip.

And me. Start of the month and a better offer I'd have said go. I'm amazed how thick most neutrals are that they can't grasp how bad the timing was for us.

He's "too good for us" not because he's that good of a player, it's the fact that the difference between his ability and the management's is just too big. The club had the chance to go all out and get high profile players but instead we messed it up big time.

No ambition. No stability. 3 coaches in 2 years and a bench of unproven talent. that's not how to grow your business.

If he goes there could be trouble. If he stays it will be double.

Somebodys probably done that, but as it’s 5.46am and I’ve just got up for an impromptu shit, I can’t be Arsenholed to read the whole thread.

So, come on and let me know............

What's the point of this thread? How is the up to the fans for him to stay or leave? He's a grown ass man, he can make his own decisions. The fans can't force him to stay or leave

This is a good point.

Do you know what now you mention it it's not up to us who starts who we buy or who manages the team either.

@Mark Think we're gonna shut the forum down! We've just established there is no point to any of this :frantics:

This forum never ceases to amaze and today, it's no different.

I thought I said in the OP for VIEWS on whether Mahrez would leave with your blessing or whether you think he should stay out of loyalty.

There have been some interesting posts, but of course we won't get to decide what happens to Mahrez! That wasn't what I was asking.

lol

mahrez: irreplaceable.

finding players who have creative flair, like to use creative flair, arent scared of using creative flair: reasonable chance of finding a couple given our finances.

said creative players being allowed to be....creative in our rigid/predictable style of play: dont hold your breath.

I was keen to sell if the price was met at the end of January.

Watching PSG tonight you'd wonder if a player like Mahrez would be an option for em. PSG looked very mediocre and if it came to a panic buy someone like Mahrez would might suit them. Would also tick the 'Mahrez dream move' box to boot.

tbh, I've enjoyed watching the guy tremendously but I've got past caring one way or 'tother as to whether he goes or stays...he clearly doesn't care enough or have enough honour toward LCFC to see out his contract.

None of our players would want to see out their contract if they had Man City hovering around though. Honour doesn't exist in football anymore unless you're just not very good and getting paid well like King.

this is cool and ambition and cute but it doesn’t change the fact he’s way too good to play for us

Sorry ..  totally disagree ..   he is not too good for us ...   we are a premier league team paying our players premier league wages ..   he is definitely one of our best players ..  but too good ..  no way !

I agree. And he and his wife seem to spend a lot of time in Paris so would make sense. Hope out of anyone PSG come for him tbh. Although I am guessing he wants Chelsea.

I also had the thought of Riyad to PSG for a tres joli transfer fee ... but they have Mbappe AND di Maria playing his position.  Mbappe is a 100M+ 20 year old superstar.  Surely not gonna happen.

My next fantasy was a two year loan to Chelsea or Arse @ 35M a year, so we don't have to watch him play us.

Or go ahead and sell him to Man City but insist on a 100M buy back clause, and spend two years hacking his Facebook every month to say we are exercising it.

Or in the real world ... there's no way to dress up a root canal.   It's gonna suck, but at this point it has to be done.
