What positions should Leicester invest in during the summer?

This transfer window is starting to worry me. I assume that Mahrez will go, but if we don't look like we're building for success we also risk losing Maguire, Ndidi &/or Vardy - or at least having them unsettled.

 

I'd like to see us making 1-2 good new signings early in the window to demonstrate ambition and to keep those 3 players on board (Mahrez, too, if possible, but I assume it's not).

Definitely sign Drago, if he still wants to stay - hopefuly he will, as he'll know that Huth & Benny will probably leave and Wes probably hasn't long left....maybe start Drago ahead of Wes in August.

 

Other signings will depend partly on what formations Claude plans to deploy (I'd like him to cater for 3-5-2 / 3-5-1-1, not just 4 at back) - and on whether we qualify for Europa League.

If we do make it into Europe, I'd want us to have a deep enough squad to compete seriously in Europe without ending up struggling in the league.

 

Tend to agree with Babs that Chilwell deserves a bit longer to prove himself (say, till January). Kasper will bounce back. Gray is the one I've lost patience with.

I can only see Iheanacho as a possible replacement for Vardy, not a 2nd striker. Cannot have too large an influx, so would take Ulloa back as alternative bench option (Slimani needs to move on permanently for 1st team football).

 

So, as a minimum, I'd be looking for us to acquire:

- 1st choice footballing right-back/wing-back;

- 2nd choice LB if Fuchs leaves;

- Drago + another tough centre back capable of passing;

- a creative central midfielder to compete with/complement Iborra, Silva & Ndidi; 

- creative, goalscoring attacking midfielder/No.10;

- 2 wingers to replace Mahrez & Gray (unless Claude is very confident that Diabaté can be a regular starter - might take another year, I reckon).

- Might need 2-3 extra squad players if we're in Europe, either from youth team or experienced but cheap players content to be squad players only.

We have a huge squad, there is a reason we have Slimani, Ulloa, Musa, Cabbage, King, Mendy on loan. Benny, Huth and Amartey not even making the bench some  weeks either.

 

We need to lose more players than we buy absolutely without question.

We're not too far away from having a challenging team (providing Mahrez stays or is adequately replaced), I can't see us splashing out big this coming Summer window without getting a few of those out on loan sold, maybe bringing in some vocal support with a safe place to stand wouldn't go amiss though....

In: rb, lb, 1 maybe 2 cbs (depends if we sign drago), mahrez replacement, a number 10, maybe a keeper to rival kasper. Possibly a big striker as a different option but not sure if puel likes this option as he wasnt keen on slim or leo.

A real No.2 to challenge Kasper. Our backup keeper situation is a bit laughable with Jakupovic, Hamer (and Iversen?).

A replacement for Fuchs, acting as either a mentor or challenger for Chilwell at LB.

At least another centre-back, in case Benalouane leaves. Plus, Morgan and Huth might be ending their careers. So, that makes two new CBs. Dragovic in, make it happen.

A replacement for Mahrez (whatever that means), in case he leaves for good this summer.

A No. 10 or centre forward who does the nitty gritty stuff that Okazaki does.

 

This is going to be a huge summer.

I wasn't actually planning on writing anything on the subject or any views from supporters, just thought it would be interesting to see what people's thoughts were and didn't see the previous thread which I apologise for.
