I probably shouldn't snigger about Florist, but I can't help it.

Fawaz Al-Hasawi made them as much of a joke as Leeds, but he couldn't compare with the bloke he sold them to last May: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/mar/26/greek-football-crisis-evangelos-marinakis-nottingham-forest-drug-trafficking-charges-olympiakos?utm_source=esp&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=Fiver+2016&utm_term=269016&subid=2714395&CMP=EMCFTBEML853.

Still, they did win the European Cup twice, didn't they. No really, they did: ask any Florist fan.

Mad to think that Forest fans my age are only able to remember (at best) one season in the top flight, and that resulted in relegation. Must be hard for them to try and cling on to things that happened long before they were born.

Forest have been irrelevant to us for a long time now.

I don't even think about them.

To be fair,  the fans have had poor luck on the chairman/owner front in more recent times.

Nigel Doughty - died unexpectedly. Was well-regarded over there in looking after the club finances etc well.

Fawaz - at the start, he gave them real promise to reach their potential in saying what he would do etc, but apparently never helped them much and received regular criticism. He was on the receuving rnd og some questions from the BBC's Natalie Jackson about why their situation was poor not too ĺong before he left.

Some big Greek guy, now - sounds like someone very much controversial, alleged drug-trafficker and some kind of match-fixer. So not sure how he's passed the 'Fit and Proper Person' test to buy a football league club?..

And apparently hasn't even been to their ground in person yet.

This Greek bloke passing the fit and proper test tells you everything you need to know about the EFL. Totally inept and not one bit fit for purpose. Anyone with a brain can see he's dodgy as ****.

How do they allow this to happen? It's unbelievable. Look at what's happened to Leyton Orient in the last two years.

Forest fans wanted him to sell up before he passed.

I have said said before how much long before they become irrelevant? When the sleeping giant line turns into ‘average sized’ club?

Same here, the two seasons they have been in the Prem in my life time both resulted in them finishing bottom. Best things in 24 years was winning the first division. Crap.

I think the problem with a fit and proper  test is that its tangled in legalities. You would have to PROVE they are not fit to deny them ownership. Thats actually quite tough to do.  otherwise the football league could be sued for millions in a potential loss of earnings.

Its really all just a farce..... however I long for the day for someone to claim  a potential new club owner  is 'well dodgy ' in court and for that to hold some legal sway.

Nottingham Forest haven't been in the Premier League in this century.

Why do you do these retarded massive text posts? Do you think it's funny? Is it like a forced meme you're trying to make "your thing"? Or are you just that insecure that people won't laugh at your posts and give you enough rep points without?

Not having a go like, I don't have any particular problem with you. I've just noticed it a few times and I'm not sure if you're aware it comes across as really awkward and a bit cringeworthy.

Like a mate that keeps making the same joke and nobody laughs and you figure you should have a word.

I get carried away sometimes. Humble apologies.

Happened a long time ago really. Just another one of the dozens of clubs with a 28-35k ground, empty seats in the second tier but would be full in the Premier League. That's all you can gauge club size on these days- history is great to look back on, but trophies won before the PL era don't dictate a great deal in the eyes of a modern football fan. The 'big 6' rule the roost, and the rest are just the rest- even the likes of Leeds, Villa, Newcastle, etc. have just folded into the pack.

An entire generation of Forest fans have grown up without seeing them as a top flight club though- that is pretty depressing.

You say that; I listen to the podcast Set Pieces Menu which is generally a well reasoned discussion about football. They recently did a subject about 'rebooting the top flight' and picking your 20 teams.

They identified 15 clubs which were considered 'cast iron' candidates and the majority of the public via social media agreed with this inclusion. 'Leeds, Villa, Newcastle and Forest...' all in that top 15. Whilst it was debated between Leicester and Derby for another spot.

Sounds about right to be fair, I'd still have them in the top 20 and I'd have us around 20th (expand the stadium and you could probably move us up a couple of places).

Outside the top 6 though, there isn't really much to distinguish clubs by other than fanbase and stadium size- pretty much everyone has a chance of getting relegated (even Everton) and trophies are incredibly rare and difficult to come by.

Past glories are a secondary factor in determining the size of a club these days- it's pretty irrelevant to the modern game. Unless you've got a global brand and money, you'll struggle.
