Poor opening 10 minutes yesterday. Burnley caught us cold and it was a tactical masterclass from Dyche to get his team firing on all cylinders to try and kill the game early doors. Burnley simply wanted it more than us in those opening minutes and were first to every ball and were quick to pick up the second ball.

After we settled we were easily the better team. The contrast between the two sides was night and day. I don't recall Burnley really having any chances of significance after their blistering start. Had we taken our chances in the first half we could and should have been going into the break leading 2-4.

We continued to boss the second half and for the life of me I genuinely don't know how we didn't come away with at least a point. Credit to Burnley they did what they had to do, and I left the ground yesterday with no complaints only disappointment at what could have been.

Aside from the obvious underperformer's, what has surprised me having read the thread is how little mention there is of Maguire's contribution to their second goal yesterday. Burnley played a hopeful ball down their right to no one and all Maguire had to do was take the Huth approach and put the ball into row Z for a throw in. Instead he tried to be clever in attempting to shield the ball out for a goal kick and got absolutely bullied in the process which led to the corner that they scored from. It was an extremely naive piece of defending. Burnley were in the ascendancy and full of confidence. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that Burnley's game plan would be focused on trying to use their height and strength in and around the penalty area at set pieces, particularly as everyone in this league knows that we are abysmal at defending them. I really like Maguire a lot as a player. He's comfortable on the ball and doesn't panic in possession which I like, but in honesty he hasn't mastered the basic art of defending which is primarily his role. He's still young so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt as he has time to learn and develop this side of his game, but it is definitely something he needs to work on.

As for our tactics yesterday, once we established a rhythm their was only one team in that game so which highlighted that Puel's approach is working and will benefit us long term once he has the right personnel at his disposal.

Finally, I just wanted to highlight Choudhury's performance yesterday. What a mature display from a player with such little first team experience. He certainly did not look out of place, and was one of our best players. Hopefully that will give him the confidence to push on.

Harsh blaming Harry for the second goal as it was never a corner. He shielded it out and got mugged by the lino.

re. Maguire on the corner, it's clever from Burnley. Their man lost Simpson at the back post too easily, Maguire is being held by his man(Wood) to the ground and their free man is there too jump above Mags and nod it in at the back post. Can't really blame Maguire all that much because it's technically a foul but savvy from Burnley, you can get away with little bits in the box.

When Dragovic played with with Maguire we had a more composed feel in defence which then means that Kasper is more confident(he might have someone to pass the ball too rather than kicking for touch) the midfield were more involved as they seemed to want to receive the ball from defence making our movement better. At the moment lots of players are not looking to receive a pass , trying to create space or pass and move. Football is all about confidence which runs through the team when you have it and it really only takes one weak link to break that.

We’ve conceded far too many goals, aerially, with Harry in the team. I’m not saying he’s been always at fault, but for a future Man Utd signing? and England captain? he/we must stop conceding goals this easily from set plays.

I thought I'd not visit the site in the aftermath of the game but here are my thoughts:

the bad:

First half performance in general

Simpson was terrible and his player scored each of their goals

Morgan has become a panicky flapper and needs to be retired

Kasper has no control of his box and is as much to blame for the extreme number of goals conceeded from corners as any defender. We need a bigger keeper who can control at least his 6 yard area.

in the last 15 minutes after we had dominated play Morgan and Kasper started tp pânic and hoof the ball forward. we lost all our momentum and never looked like getting an equaliser that way - we had to play through Silva, Iheanacho and Mahrez where we looked awesome.

Okazaki, he just isn't affecting games at the moment, rightly taken off.

The some good, some bad:

Ben Chilwell wasn't inline for the first goal (no excuse for Simspon) but Ben should've been more aware. He seems to be realising that he needs to get the ball crossed quickly as defenders know he'll try and take them on the outside and never come inside if not. Some good crosses later on.

Mahrez was mostly ineffective but at least he got himself a little more involved. A class player would have got at least one of his chances into the net though.

Silva, made a couple of sublime passes (the sort we used to see from Riyad) but also hit the ball over Chilwell's head a number of times. when we went through him we were dangerous when Morgan and Kasper played hoofball he wasn't even noticeable.

Vardy, not sure he touched the ball in the first 20, missed a couple of chances where I'd have expected him to score at least 1 but his linking with Iheanacho looked good and his goal was pure Vardy.

The some great and some poor:

Maguire, looked better than Beckenbauer at times, some of our best forward moves and passes came from him but also looked unsure at the back surrounded by a keeper and defenders that looked league 1 standard.

Gray, really good going forward but not involved enough in the game at times. a decent run out for him though.

The mostly very good:

Choudhury was clearly our man of the match, covered for the clowns at the back very often, made sensible passes and didn't panic. That one on one defensive play when he was left alone with Simpson and Morgan in gonzoland was one of the best defensive sequences I've seen all year.

The subs:

Iheanacho looked great, links up well with others and plays great 1,2s. Hopefully he now gets a run at no.10 for the rest of the season. i think he can build a good partnership with a number of players as our link man.

Diabaté looked great, always dangerous with the ball . not sure why we stopped using them after scoring other than Morgan and Kasper going into hoof panic mode.

Hamer got a game but I think it should be Jako to the end of the season. Hamer is happy being a no.2.

The manager:

I have no negatives about puel other than him sticking with Morgan, simpson and Mahrez when we should be moving on. I hope that Kasper is injured and we now have to put someone else in goal to the end of the season too. I like his passing game and I think that Silva, Iheanacho and Diabaté are good for that.

Many here in the forum grumble about Morgan and Simpson. They played badly, but unfortunately there were much worse players against Burnley. First of all Chilwell, who in my opinion is totally overstrained in the PL, he is the only professional in the PL who has only one foot, his weak flanks with his "strong left" foot you can watch in youth football, but not in professional matches, and he is not even capable of playing offside - proof: Burnley's 1:0. His defensive behaviour mocks every description. Then the unspeakable Gray, he should, together with Chilwell, play Championship or League One or simply become an athlete -  all he can do is run but not play football, his passes end up with the opponent in most cases, his tackles like in youth football. I can only feel sorry for Vards who has to play with such anti players. And I cannot understand the hype around Maguire. For how many goals against Leicester is he responsible? Together with Chilwell it is far more than 10. Yesterday he was too lazy and presumably too heavy to jump for the header (2:0) after the corner. And over and over again, Puel sets up these ChilGrays in the starting team and nobody seems to notice that as a consequence the Foxes go into the match with two players less. Under Puel, the team is getting weaker every week, and I do hope that the owners will pull the ripcord to protect this great Club from further damage.

The corner to me looked like it bounced off Maguire's knee, not that it matters one way or another, you still have to defend the corner.

Maguire is seemingly one of those ‘untouchables’. Because he is a big unit and can bring the ball out of defence, he stands out, visually.

‘And of course, he’s a good young player. But this season he’s been shown by more than one sprightly striker, to turn about as quickly as an aircraft carrier. And he’s also not fantastic in the air for a tall bloke.

Defensively, we looked a far more solid unit when Wes and Huth were at their best. But of course, being shielded by the best shield in the world (Kante) massively helped.

I like Maguire, but I’m not convinced that defensively he’s as brill as many of our lot make out. Time will tell. He’s got years ahead of him.

I think he will improve every year for the next 8 or so.  Morgan will be worse next year than this.  Its the circle of life.

Maybe we should give the same sentiment to Chilwell .

Granted it was highlights I seen but by all accounts we played well apart from the first 10-15 mins.  Really should have had a draw - wasteful in front of goal.

Those stats are interesting, but I don’t think any (sane) person really thought 1 goal leads are held more often than 2 goal leads.

sky sports would like you to keep watching regardless of the score.
