Beechey Posted 22 May 2018 Posted 22 May 2018 (edited) £50m plus Roberts for me should be our floor. No lower should be considered and we should squeeze for more. Not fair to deny Riyad again, if that deal has been offered and Man City clearly won't move, then we should accept it. £50m will allow us to get 1 amazing player, or 2/3 good starters in. Will probably need to really spend big to fill the hole Mahrez will leave though. Edited 22 May 2018 by Beechey

What's the latest rumours on Ben Arfa anyway? Having someone of his experience in the short term whilst we nurture younger players to eventually fill that role seems a good option to me.

Still a massive gamble, got a feeling he'd be heinous with us like he was at Newcastle and Hull.

So up and coming talent will only sign for us if we agree to let them go on the cheap? That's the sort of attitude that would see us regularly getting ripped off by the big boys.

CarbonVirtine Posted 22 May 2018 Posted 22 May 2018 Nobody is a "replacement" for anyone. It's about options, balance and developing players. In developing players, we can experiment a little and mix things up a bit where more established/experienced players might starting packing a sad, saying they know better and becoming all half-arsed. You need to shake sh*t up sometimes.

I wonder if Hazard had played for Leicester and Mahrez had played for Chelsea these last three seasons if people would lazily and automatically assume that Mahrez is the superior player? There seems plenty of bias and snobbery when comparing the two even from our own fans.
breadandcheese Posted 22 May 2018 Posted 22 May 2018 When Willian goes to Man Utd for 70m, we're going to look like we've had our pants down on this. 1
CarbonVirtine Posted 22 May 2018 Posted 22 May 2018 Maybe Hazard only plays like sh*t when I'm not watching.

I don't see us having Diabate, Roberts and then another Mahrez replacement all vying for that right sided role. That's why if we get Roberts I think we'll go big guns for Elyounoussi who is a very strong attacker that plays left or right but would work best as an inverted winger on the left. You would hope so wouldn't you because if either Gray or Diabate start week in week out we really are going to struggle. 1

martyn Posted 22 May 2018 Posted 22 May 2018 Like some have mentioned, I'd be looking to shift Gray out and bring in a marquee wide man as a guaranteed starter as the Mahrez replacement. Some club will fork out at least £20m for Gray, so having that combined £70m + Patrick Roberts gives a very decent wedge.

Guest Markyblue Posted 22 May 2018 Posted 22 May 2018 Some people on here think mahrez is better than hazard.really .take those blue tinted glasses off boys.

He was promised the move for this amount, we backed out and if we back out again can you really see a promising player joining knowing they will be lied to if they ever want to leave.

AKCJ Posted 22 May 2018 Posted 22 May 2018 I think we can get another 15m out of them. Absolutely no reason to sell right now. He's not going to the World Cup so there's no risk of long term injuries or the added rush to get deals concluded. I think if we can get 65m plus Roberts then thats a good deal all round. Man City get a world class winger, we get good money and a good English prospect that will get PL game time. Then use to money to get someone good plus a central defender and I think we can look forward to another good season.

Every other aspect of the game such as successful take on's, key passes, pass completion, ground covered, defensive stats etc etc Hazard is better than him. He is way more of a threat than Mahrez. Not having a go at Riyad as Hazard is class but he is not better than him because he has a few more assists. Edited 22 May 2018 by Fox 4 Life
