MPH Posted 26 July 2018 Posted 26 July 2018 This is the sort of player we need. He is good enough to play right now but will only get better.. he reminds me of a younger Robert Huth.

If he was that promising they'd keep him and sell one of the plethora of other overseas players on their books. The general consensus of the 5 games he played for Barcelona last year was that he was poor, hence they want rid of him first over others. £12-15m may be worth a punt but 30 has to be a bit of a joke. Barcelona wanting to get rid doesn't mean the guy is garbage by any means. They have a very specific system of play. You are talking about a club that sold Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Samuel Eto'o, Ronaldinho, Thierry Henry all in their primes. 5 games at Barcelona is probably enough to determine a player isn't going to fit their system but not enough to tell whether a player is a good or average player, which I'm almost certain he didn't play full games for them. You're still missing the point I feel and that is his over inflated price tag. Do you honestly feel he's worth over double what Barcelona paid for him in such a short space of time? If he's not that technically gifted, which is what the Spanish journalists inferred, then in a faster paced Premiership he may just turn out to be a big lump. He may not of course, but 30m is one hell of a gamble for a player bought for 12m and has done bugger all to prove himself since bar a couple of big lump headers in the World Cup. 1
Foxxed Posted 26 July 2018 Posted 26 July 2018 Mina, Maguire and Evans would mean the end of Morgan's first team place for sure. 1

Agreed, but which one of them is going to be happy sitting on the bench for most of the season? There's been an assumption by some that playing two wing backs equals 3 CBs? Isn't Puels preference in his French sides a 2 wing backs in a 4231 formation with the 2 midfielders being of a defensive nature to cover the wing backs?

I know we are talking speculation but this one looks like the one that got away, even if we miss him at 30m. Colombia didn't concede a goal from open play while he was on the field when he was there. From what I've seen he has the tools to be a great defender in the prem and can be a good defender for a team that keeps it simple and no nonsense. The price may be a risk but I think it would be worth the reward. 1
LCFC hub Posted 26 July 2018 Posted 26 July 2018 Going on his world cup performances he would be a great signing. Going on that we were reportedly interested in him before he moved to Barca suggests we are interested. Going on the Maguire to Man U starting to pick up traction with 2 weeks to go. It will get more intense too. We need to go after this guy! We can not afford to have Morgan and Evans as out main pairing for the season. 1

We only get Mina if Maguire goes imo.

Forward thinking Posted 30 July 2018 Posted 30 July 2018 I can't see it if you ask me ! I doubt we will go three at the back and neither Mina or Evans will want to be on the bench/used in a rotating role.
Foxxed Posted 30 July 2018 Posted 30 July 2018 If this does happen, Evans will be benched, Morgan will sit out his career, and we'll have Mina and Maguire. That is, two ball playing centre backs who can head a goal and two full backs who like getting forwards. I get the feeling Puel would like to play like that.
Wymsey Posted 30 July 2018 Posted 30 July 2018 (edited) This transfer window somewhat concludes that there's too much 'fake news' going about on the internet and it twists some people's minds. Edited 30 July 2018 by Wymeswold fox 1
nnfox Posted 30 July 2018 Posted 30 July 2018 Haha. Imagine an established international footballer playing for Barcelona turning down Utd for us. We are MASSIVE 1
ALC Fox Posted 30 July 2018 Posted 30 July 2018 Oooh, it would be sooooo good if we kept Maguire and signed one of Mourinho's backup options

As said above, would be hilarious if that's the case and Mourinho was scuppered with both of his targets (if they are actually targets of his of course).
AjcW Posted 30 July 2018 Posted 30 July 2018 I mean as stupid as this all sounds, we were the other club in for him when he went to Barca, so there will have been contact before. Wouldn't be the strangest thing if he ended up here.
