Seriously- you think a top player will leave Barca’s bench to sit on ours for a year ??

You would think not, though with some players it depends on how much you are prepared to pay them. I'd imagine at his age he wouldn't be happy to do that though.

No, I would expect him to be first choice but would probably rotate him with Evans.

I think we'd go out and buy another keeper if Kasper went, don't see us buying someone with about two games in a year as our number one if we're actually being serious about top 10 finishes.

Maguie has four years left, if we don't want to sell we don't have to. We'll have scouted replacements for every player, but we can't go out and buy them all because we might sell someone.

If that's the case re: Ward, then it makes the deal all the more ridiculous. To spend that sort of money on someone who we're not sure on being a number one.  Other than Man City, no other club has spent like that on a reserve keeper.

I'd like to share the confidence that we've scouted for replacements for every player but I'm not going to lie, the way we're going replacing Mahrex and our failure to replace Drinkwater doesn't fill me with much confidence.

Ordinarily, I agree.  However, realistically, I think we have to accept that Maguire will be leaving either this year or next.  So if we've scouted this guy and believe him to be a good player with huge potential, then surely it is about buying him when he is available and at a sensible price, rather than waiting a year down the line.

Also, haven't we just done this with Schmeichel, buying Ward on the off chance that we might sell our no 1 keeper?

Not according to our ever reliable Mr Percy. :D

Southampton just signed Angus Gunn for more than we paid, no guarantee he'll start ahead of Forster despite his shoddy form last year. Even if we did sign him as a potential long term replacement, you can't do that with every single position, it's impossible.

Gunn will be no.1 this season for Southampton.  I'm virtually sure of that.

I agree you can't sign replacements for every position, of course that's crazy.  But those positions where we know it's likely there's a lot of interest in one of our players, it's probably wise.  On a smaller level, Burnley did this with Tarkowski, buying him with potential, in the knowledge that it was likely they'd sell Michael Keane in a year or two.

Tarkowski wasn't a £30m buy to sit on the bench just in case though is he. If we were to go out and buy a talented youngster at a fraction of the price who doesn't expect to play instantly, then fair enough. But you want an international defender from Barcelona on big money.

I don't believe it either. They could sign Wes for half that.

I do want. Think big.

In reality, when I was arguing for this, paper talk was 15m, only 3m more than Ward. At 30m, no, it is too expensive for a talented youngster.

A lot of money for an unproven player.

Especially given Barcelona have to get rid of him, either on loan or by transfer.

They're registering Malcom, Arthur and Coutinho for the first half of the season. Even in January, Coutinho could still be waiting for paperwork for his Portuguese passport, it's not guaranteed they'll gain another slot.
