If we're getting stuffed, then I sort of get it, but if the game is tight or we're winning, then it is beyond comprehension. 

 

Also, I sit by the aisle and am fed up with having to do yo-yo impressions for several minutes when I'm avidly watching the game. Plus, the players - if they have performed well - deserve our post-match appreciation and applause.

 

I am sure some people have a valid reason for leaving early, but 'beating the traffic' is not one of them.

 

Some time back I tried to explain why it's wrong "leaving early", but got my words and sentences a bit muddled up.

What amazes me is the people who leave early only to sit in the car parks. As I come out of k block after clapping the players off there are loads of cars queued up to leave but can't.

Also if you hang about for 15 mins after the final whistle there is hardly any traffic

Leave my seat 88 mins, due to disability, and not coming down stairs in crowds, watch the screen downstairs, if it’s just seeing out the game, disappear early, as I come through town, home in 10 minutes, rather than see the players leave the pitch, not my cup of tea, that 10 minutes becomes over an hour

Have to say I left early on Sat. Due to having ****ed my knee up. Those stairs are a killer from the back row. And it's a long walk back to the station with a 7 year old.

 

But as i walked back up raw dykes road I couldn't help but laugh at all those people sat in cars going absolutely nowhere. That really does seem proper odd. Sat queuing in queue going nowhere only to know when you do get moving you are going to sit in gridlock anyway.

Agreed. Ironically it's this kind of rubbish that actually encourages me to go early too  I just know our fans won't be up for it anymore.

 

Our support is piss poor I'm afraid. We've got the numbers but the attitude is crap. Half-arsed use of clappers kind of sum up the whole situation.

I think I’ve left early once in my life out of easily over 300 games and that’s through the people I was with were my lift home and had only gone with them as it was my only way of getting there. 

 

I just dont get it. All those people last season that will have missed Mahrez goal v bournemouth etc.

Never ever understood them but as long as they don't block my view I couldn't care less. Those that do are selfish pricks who shouldn't be allowed to take their seat after half-time.

There's a toxic apathy from our fans at the minute. I've got a season ticket and go away but I've got to confess, the constant negativity from the stands is making it far less enjoyable than it was. 

 

It might be trivial, but every single home game we hear "is this a library" and "your support is ****ing shit" and they're right. Obviously what goes on the pitch is far more important, but you can't tell me that you didn't take a bit of pride in us having the best atmosphere in the country from the Great Escape to winning the title. I realise a lot of that was down to winning, but even that isn't enough to give people joy. I didn't even hear any cheers at the final whistle, just light applause. 

 

The loudest chant all game was the one aimed at the ref. We might as well just sing that all game because there's only about 100 people singing in a crowd of 32,000.

 

I'm not being an elitist fan, but our support is absolute crap. So what if we sell out? we've got 29,000 seated mutes and the away support is dross too.

The players get paid very well to do the job to the best of their ability. I also expect them to do it until the last second regardless of whether people are leaving or not.

Fans however pay their money every week and therefore have a right to do what suits them best. If they want to leave early to save themselves half an hour to see their kids for longer before bed, or go to work etc then that’s up to them.

The thing is we are in the strange position of already having achieved the highest level of joy we will ever get from supporting our team. The title win is a comfort blanket that a lot of the crowd are wearing. I'm not saying its right, but the atmosphere is a direct result of a football miracle that has become a kind of millstone around the neck. Hopefully time will improve the atmosphere as memories fade.

Absolutely agree. I fully understand that Wolves or Huddersfield at home doesn't have as much riding on it as the other games, but it really feels like the crowd would rather be anywhere else. A lot of them act on it by leaving early too.

I think this also. Genuinely think only a relegation and subsequent promotion will solve it.

I  think support is only bad in games where we are expected to  win. However that is probablly far too many . Wolves are said to be the best team ever promoted and have drew at Man C  and Man u  .We beat them with 10 men  and folks on here complained  so apart from Man C   Liverpool Arsenal Chelsea Spurs  any other dropped points are rubbish

• Of course its up to them. I didn't say it wasn't. 
• I said that I find it depressing and not something that I'd consider.

Always the same 2 cars at the front of the exit que.

pay a fortune to park, miss the last 15 minutes of the game and then have to wait for the roads to clear before you are released.

What's annoying as well is those that do want to sing, make some noise etc get dirty looks/comments thrown at you by people around you. It's as if football has fully become a sit down, stay quiet and watch event. 

 

I get a fair few and try and contain myself shouting occasionally (all 'clean') so it isn't even that.

The kids down from me spent longer smacking each other with the clappers ffs

 

I know being sat in the family stand I shouldn't expect much more, we've been trying to move for a year or so until we're forced to move.

Modern day football as a whole is completely different to what it used to be in years gone by whether we like it or not. We all talk about our own atmosphere and our own fans leaving but how many clubs can you think of with a great atmosphere week in week out? How many clubs can you think of where fans don't leave early?

 

I am not saying we should all conform and be like every other club but I do think at times we are overly critical when it comes to atmosphere in particular. It's not secret that our best two years in terms of atmosphere were during the 'great escape' and when we won the league. Both of which we had something to play for and we could see something special taking place in front of our eyes. Currently we are in a bit of a limbo where we are probably safe from relegation but not quite there when it comes to qualifying for Europe. I also think the fans are divided at the minute when it comes to the manager too which isn't helping. 

 

As for fans leaving early, each to their own. Done it once or twice maybe and I had reasons for doing so at the time. I am sure everyone has a reason for leaving. I'd be interesting to know if it's the same people week in week out.

I never leave a game early - when I go down it is my day around the game so I enjoy staying after to clap the boys off and show a bit of appreciation.

 

One thing i will admit to though is leaving 3/4 minutes before halftime to ensure I am able to get a pint or a pie (sometimes both - yolo!) and I'm able to consume them before the second half starts.

 

However this season, i'll be honest, with the price of a pint i've not bothered to as of yet.

getting annoyed about people leaving isn't going to stop it from happening.
