But the biggest problem here is the fact the 1- we are not looking for a Vardy-type player in the Puel era and 2- we just can't. He's a special kind of player.

I don't mean a like for like replacement in terms of a Vardy clone. Simple an out and out striker, Iheanacho (And I like him) is not that.

Most fans are just too gready and spoiled that every new recruit must live up to the 3 greatest players to ever play here imo (Mahrez, Kante and Vardy). Which honestly is stupid. How fair is it for a player to be asked to preform at such a high level? Is it fair for an Arsenal player to be compared to Henry and Vieira? That's just unrealistic.

Not really. Regarding the defence we've not had anyone of the ilk or name of those 3. I'm mainly discussing the defence when I talk of poor recruitment in the current debate, we've failed.

As for strikers again, we've failed, they been very poor.

Iheanacho as i've said I like, I think he will be good for us but generally it's been poor.

Thing is, with the constent change of managers, we are finding out that  different coachs want different players. Every one of those managers wanted to build their own defensive unit with the players that they want but the club can't just go out and buy what's asked from them because we have too many defenders and no unit to speak of. That's the downside of constent change. The way of thinking is deferent from a person to another.

I agree to an extent but here we are a year on, a summer transfer window under his belt and not much has changed. With Wes Morgan returning next week.

I'm getting the impression there was no stomach bug and Vardy and Puel disagreed on the touchline. Now he's been dropped from the squad because of it and he's on instagram stirring it with his matchday posts.

@ramadaone has just indicated he's not on the bench either who is spot on with info, so something has gone off. Vardy has been saying since Tuesday he'll be ready on Saturday knowing full well he isn't involved.

To be fair players often say they are ready when they are not. Im sure before the Arsenal game Vardy said he was ok to play and clearly he wasnt.

If he isnt on the bench then maybe there is more to it than it seems.

The issue is that whoever plays upfront is our only goal threat, Maddison doesn’t offer much in open play. Iheanacho isn’t much of a threat behind Vardy. Gray, Albrighton and Ghezzal have pathetic goal scoring records.

Obviously, it’s massively difficult to replace Mahrez but stylistically we didn’t, Mahrez shot from good locations often, none of our other wingers do.

Nacho plays better upfront than behind the striker. Could be his match.

Slim could have done a job in this system. Too bad he's gone and I think it was down more to his relatioship with some of the old guard rather than his actual performances on the pitch.

I'm sorry but slimani was lazy and quite frankly useless.

Does anyone other than Puel actually think that Gray is a striker?

I certainly don't ;) but i guess its an option since he is now fit from injury.

Quite excited to see the starting 11 today, more so than usual with all the rumours thats being posted.

Regardless of who starts, i think we have this one in the bag

The emerge of chilwell, gray, then the likes of mendy, madison, ricardo, amartey?

The season we start way from relegation zone?

Forgot our history already?

Piper tweeted that he wondered if vardy just got fed up on Monday and left the pitch without the managers permission

I can’t imagine any pro doing that, let alone JV

if he did that and he wasn’t ill then he deserves everything he gets - I don’t believe that and will be interested to see if he is hanging around the tunnel area supporting his team mates

Well he is on the bench along with Gray. Didn't get back from illness until Thursday. I think fitness issues are perhaps more likely than conspiracy theories. Vardy himself has said he had to come off to be sick. For a player whose game is based on fitness and bursts of pace possibly a precautionary place on the bench is good.

Why jump to such a negative conclusion from something you were only guessing? So he was on the bench, he did play, he missed some decent chances and was offside a lot. He's just not on form. an on-form Vardy gets a hat-trick in that second half.

I thought he looked off the pace to be honest. As though he was still only half fit. The fact we relied solely on crosses and didn't put any balls in behind (I realise that WHAM were playing deep but still) suggests he wasn't at his sharpest.

Looked lively again maybe being benched worked. Missed a few sitters though.

Against a team down to ten men, who were going to do nothing except put every man behind the ball, Vardy wasn't a good option unfortunately.

I don’t think Vardy was the problem it was the lack of quality to get a ball through to him despite his runs.

There were a couple of opportunities, but the midfield, Maddison in particular (who I think has a great future) just didn't see the pass. We all seem to turn inward or backward; players need to learn that sometimes having less of the ball is better!
