Countryfox Posted 22 December 2018 Share Posted 22 December 2018 Saw an article in the paper today headed ‘Slavery shame of modern football’ ... an ‘exclusive’ relating to comments by Trevor Philips. I immediately told Mrs CF to quieten down as I settled down to read this intriguing article. Were black players arriving from foreign countries made to row to the UK in old wooden boats ??? .... were they shackled at immigration and then sold to football managers after having their teeth inspected ????!!!???? No ... apparently not. Trev said racism hadn’t gone away cus owners and coaches were alllllmost exclusively white. He stated that due to this “football looks like the 18th century plantation economy of the American south”. Obviously this is totally unacceptable in a modern society. After giving this some serious thought I would suggest that when football clubs are put up for sale, on eBay or wherever they are advertised, a simple disclaimer is added saying ‘White people need not apply’. Problem solved !!

Why the surprise, he is a leaver. Keir Starmers Labour Party Conference speech about ' Not ruling out a Second Referendum' was apparently 'unscripted' according to Laura K and it was the 'Polar Opposite' to Len McCluskey's speech, tail wagging dog?. It was all about appeasing the LP membership, and you are right it doesn't reflect the Party views with respect to Party Members, but a bit of a Dichotomy over JC's views, Party Member views and the electorates views. It would appear currently, there is 'no way out' towards a second referendum.

I don’t get that Corbyn is being so obtuse. There was a poll a couple of days ago that put Labour in third place behind the LDs if they didn’t support a second referendum in a snap election. Interesting stance.... If there's a referendum, the party membership will decide Labour's stance. Party membership is overwhelmingly pro-Remain, so Labour would presumably support Remain (and reform) as it nominally did in 2016. If there's a snap election, Corbyn plans to stand by the "Brexit for jobs" policy....in the face of overwhelming opposition from party members and MPs, and majority opposition from Labour voters (2/3 voted Remain in 2016; probably more would now). I mean, I know Corbyn is a Soft Brexit / "socialism in one country" man, but there's a difficulty or two there, isn't there? Even before this, I thought there was a fair chance that the Tories would win any snap election - even bigger chance if Corbyn persists with this and is not over-ruled by the wider party. And I say that as someone not necessarily convinced that a referendum is a good idea.

Exactly, so what's the point of him standing on a Remain platform? They chucked the Italians budget deficit of about 2.3% back at them, imagine what they'll do when they see his plans to borrow a trillion

They won't though - Labour backed Brexit last year at the ballot box and got nearly 40% of the vote. The Lib Dems fought on reversing it and barely gained anything. When it comes to polling day Corbyn knows those voters who hate the Tories will tick his box as they are the only chance of removing them.
