Davide Lorenzo ?

After being released from Juventus’ youth team, Davide Lorenzo had spells in Norway, Malta, Belgium and Switzerland, but the Italian failed to make his mark during his trips abroad.

This forced the 1994 born striker to quit football and he started working as a waiter in Nice, France and this is where he met Leicester City’s late owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, and the latter offered him a trial with the Foxes.

During his trial with the Premier League outfit’s reserve team, Lorenzo impressed the leaders of Leicester and that’s reportedly seen him handed a professional contract at the club.

Italian website Tutto Mercato Web interviewed Lorenzo and asked him about his thoughts after putting pen to paper on a professional contract at the King Power Stadium.

“I am happy to have achieved this goal, I have pursued it for so long… I know that the contract was a consequence of the actions I have done inside and, above all, outside the field,” he said.

“I refer to all the things I have experienced in the last years, during which I learned so much from my mistakes, now I just have to continue like this, training hard every day to get more emotions like that.”

Lorenzo’s style of play has seen him draw comparisons with Leicester star Jamie Vardy as he’s also labeled the ‘Italian Vardy’.

Regarding the comparison to the England international, the striker said: “No, I do not agree. At my age, he was already a professional in minor leagues and had already won several titles of top scorer in England!

“My story is similar to his, it is true, but also profoundly different. To reach what he has achieved is my goal.”

I'd love him to be somewhere halfway decent, but considering that he was waiting tables after football hadn't worked out for him, I can't say I expect anything more than a few games for the ressies maybe and using us as a springboard to get some sort of contract lower down elsewhere. I hope he does succeed somewhere, but I doubt it'll be here.
