Fastest in the league last weekend. Fuchs still looks decent

I have lost count of the times I have read, or been told, that Fuch's legs have gone, and I had pretty much bought into that narrative myself.

So how come he was the fastest recorded in the PL last weekend (according to the Mail)? Obviously there is a big difference between between top speed and acceleration (which we tend to mix together in talking about pace), so maybe that is why. Whatever the reason, we ought to give the man credit for the way he has stepped into the first 11 in great condition, and reminded us that he is still a good player.

As usual, life is more complicated than some on FT would have you believe. I just wish he had scored his peno, I bet he is absolutely gutted. :(

I think it also helps that Chilwell has been fantastic this season, and Fuchs is moving on at the end of the season - he becomes an easy target for naysayers to talk about past-it players.

It’s called being a professional footballer.

I really dislike the misrepresentation of pace in stats. It's like when they claimed Wasyl was the fastest player. No he isn't.

Love Fuchs, he's still solid back up and I'd like to think he's part of why Chilwell has improved. But let's not pretend he's any kind of pacy.

Read the OPs first sentence.

It's not misrepresenting them to use them as an argument against the complaints that his legs have gone.

Very good last night and last weekend.

Shame about the pen but he can hold his head high. Will miss him when he's gone!

Fuchs is a legend, but, he is now second choice behind a younger and better Chillwell.

It is the game, you have your time and then move on, his defending against Mahrez last night was a joy to watch.

One of the best back up left backs in the league and probably the best we have ever had.  Probably one of the best players we have in terms of technical ability and will always be a legend for his part in the title win (and for the Sanchez throw in).  Chilwell is the future and I am happy with him as first choice but more than pleased with Fuchs as a back up.  As always some posters never see any grey.  You are either GOAT or you are shit and deserve to die.  X

Narh I read his post, I agree with most of it but he's still essentially implying Fuchs is deceptively quick and his legs haven't gone. I don't really think either of those things are true tbf. He's not and they have.

What I would say is I don't think you have to he rapid to be a solid full back when you've got the intelligence and experience he does. I'm certainly happy that he's our back up.

Fuchs showed his quality and I think he is sublime. Forever one of our title heroes and will remain in our hearts even when he leaves in the summer.

I remember his no-look pass for Vardy when he broke the record against Man Utd,Ridiculously brilliant.

Debatable.

However, with Fuchs leaving at the end of the season it is about bringing the next LB through which is Chilwell. He's 21 and not the finished article, but giving him the first choice place for the season will help him grow. Has a lot to learn but he is certainly putting performances in week in week out.

Next season we need a cover for Chilwell though.

Nah it is. It's suggesting one sprint time shows good stamina and endurance. It doesn't. When people say a players legs have gone, they're not saying they've lost a yard of pace (that saying already exists), they're saying they've not got the legs to hold it for 90 minutes. Which Fuchs doesn't. However, he was good last night, allowed Mahrez nothing

Short of a dictionary definition I'm not sure how you can tell me what 'people' mean by 'his legs have gone'. As for 'lost a yard of pace' - clearly we have multiple phrases for the same (or overlapping) concepts, particularly in idiomatic English, so it's existence doesn't preclude 'hlhg' from meaning something similar.

Sorry, but I'm not having it that last night was the performance of a man whose legs have 'gone' in any sense I would use the term.

Fuchs is still a decent option for us but Chilwell is still our 1st choice left back when fit. Fuchs is one of few back up players i have faith in.

Fuch is better than chillwell as a defender and a better footballer/passer.Chilwell is better at going by players but is prone to a mistake.Chillwell is on his way up the mountain Fuchs is on his way down. You could play them both withfuchs LH side of 3 CBs and chillwell left wing back.

He's played well the last couple of games but those pace stats are so misleading. The year we won the league we had 4 in the top 10; Morgan one of them and Phil Jagielka was top. Says all you need to know.

I think it's more about being agile and ability to get moving. He's fine as back up but I'd be worried if he was starting a long run of games.
