Problem is in the two Fleetwood games he was diabolical, I agree he needs more of a chance. But we were struggling last season at times and it was too much of a risk with the players we had ahead of him. The pathway is far easier this year.

dyanmark Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 Today possibly showed that Madison is not essential if we go 433. we just miss out the pass to him and forget that no 10 area.Difficult one to resolve but 3 I'm the middle does the job
MPH Posted 2 January 2019 Author Posted 2 January 2019 8 hours ago, FIF said: There is NO WAY they could both play in the same team. Maddison isn't a good defender and Barnes is far worse. Our team is built on defence and pressing we can't afford to carry players - we couldn't even do that for the last two seasons with Mahrez. we didn’t play with 3 defensive central midfielders when we had Mahrez. I think if we play them in midfield, i’d agree with you... but 3 up front and the trio we had in CM today i think it could work..

Tanya Posted 2 January 2019 Posted 2 January 2019 I know its a risk but it feels like our wing options are limited with Ghezzal not great and Gray so inconsistent on often better off the bench. I'd love to see bim back as long as we give him a few games to settle in and make him feel welcome. The future is bright!
Nicolo Barella Posted 2 January 2019 Posted 2 January 2019 Still hope he stays there. Plenty of stuff for him to learn still - if Moore keeps playing him in different positions, he will grow more comfortable playing in a number of positions which will make him a lot more valuable to us. Maybe he can work on tracking back and pressing too whilst he's there. Plenty of time to integrate in the preseason.

Maybe he can work on tracking back and pressing too whilst he's there. Plenty of time to integrate in the preseason. There's two good reasons to keep him there: he can learn more in a comfortably placed WBA side and he'll integrate better with the confidence of winning promotion with WBA. At WBA he's already succeeded in three positions. But his tackling is non existent and I've not watched the last three games but before that I didn't see much tracking back. He mentioned he is learning that at WBA. But that team is setup so he doesn't really need to. I'm not completely sold he will improve his defensive work there. Besides, we may want to use him as a flair player. The other good argument, argued by Finnegan, is that if we leave him there he'll come back with more confidence - something he seemed to lack in his two league cup games he played last season where he looked 'lost'. But recently he does seem to have a bit more grit and determination in his face. And the WBA sing songs about him, one of their most important players - something fairly confidence boosting. Besides, he would come back to a dressing room with two u23s that he's grown up in the academy with: Hamza and Chillers. It wouldn't harm him to stay at WBA. And he will improve there. But then again he could improve here instead. It's touch and go for me. If we play him here, support him while he's learning and he adjusts well then bring him back.
Dahnsouff Posted 3 January 2019 Posted 3 January 2019 This is tricky, but if he does come back, he HAS to play more than after his last recall, otherwise its a waste of his talent, time and development.
egg_fried_rice Posted 3 January 2019 Posted 3 January 2019 I don't think it's likely a young player will be able to come back and immediately pick up all the positional and tactical requirements for Puel's system(s). Coupled with the improvement he needs to show in the defensive side of his game, I think that is enough reason to leave him developing at West Brom for the rest of the season to come back for a full summer with us in preparation for next season. I understand that still leaves us short in attacking areas in the meantime though so it's a tough one to call. I'm not sure I can see us reintegrating Barnes in the summer AND another new (more experienced) wide attacker in January - certainly not without shifting a few on. Timing seems key with this one.
Ric Flair Posted 3 January 2019 Posted 3 January 2019 He comes back immediately, simple as that. We are in a very good position and let's strengthen that and try and finish 7th. He'll then have had half a season in our first team, no dont underestimate how important it was for Chilwell to have the repetition of playing for us time and time again last season.

Agreed, but all but Puel's most doctrinaire haters should acknowledge that he's good at finessing the psyche of younger players. He knows it's a disaster if Barnes comes back and sits; he's not going to ask for it to happen unless he plans to use the lad extensively. That won't mean starting every match, or immediately, nor should it - there's going to be a transition period where he learns Puel's system, and he may start out as a cup starter and league reserve for a few weeks.
urban.spaceman Posted 3 January 2019 Posted 3 January 2019 I'm in two minds now! I was firmly for him to remain and develop at West Brom but having looked at how well we've been doing defensively and the current state of play in the league table we really do need to crack on and that means being much stronger in attack. If we did recall Barnes, he would have to play otherwise we risk wasting some of his development, as others have mentioned.
Glorious Leicester Fan Posted 3 January 2019 Posted 3 January 2019 I see can no theoretical reason why they cannot play in the same team. The days of when forwards are pigeonholed into set positions is long gone. Look at Liverpool for example. In in regards to width, we are blessed with full backs whose natural inclination is to bomb forward in wide positions.

Gotta be honest, even I'm tempted to bring him back now and I was very vocally in favour of leaving him out. Ideally, I want us to go and replace Mahrez properly. We were linked with Promes in the summer, man isn't getting a kick in Seville, let's get him on loan. Same with the Malcom kid at Barca. Or go and actually spend some cash properly on some half decent wingers. If Puel is to have any chance, he needs some quality out wide or we and he are doomed to dull mediocrity. Gray and Ghezzal are garbage and Albrighton is inconsistent at best. Barnes would be no worse than at least two of them and probably offers more spark and goal threat than Sharky does.

This is the thing, everyone worrying about Barnes lack of defensive ability and whether he can perform at this level are forgetting that Gray and Ghezzal have largely been dog shit this season in terms of output and yet we're still 7th. Barnes will be no worse than them, he's met pretty much every challenge he's ever faced and excelled. His only real blemish is 3 cup appearances for us against lower league opposition where he's eaten for fcukin breakfast on loan. Now either it was the crap he had to play with for us in those games (mildly jesting), he was trying too hard or it was 3 games, hardly a bigger enough sample to judge him on as a Leicester player. He seems to have improved even more at West Brom, he's a PL player in the making. Puel is at his best with these types of players.
foxes21 Posted 3 January 2019 Posted 3 January 2019 4-3-1-2, Puel’s preferred system at Nice. Schmeichel Pereira, Morgan, Maguire, Chilwell Choudhury, Mendy, Ndidi Maddison Vardy, Barnes Albrighton and Gray on the bench if we want to switch to 4-3-3.
STUHILL Posted 3 January 2019 Posted 3 January 2019 I wanted to keep him there all season, but swaying towards bringing him back now, as can genuinely see him starting a lot of games for us out on the left. He is a better option than Ghezzal and possibly even Gray right now. and giving Chilwell and Choudary first team opportunities as worked wonders for them so far. ----------------------Kasper---------------------- Ricardo-----Evans---Maguire-----Chilwell ----------------Choudary---N'didi------------- Albrighton--------Maddison---------Barnes -----------------------Vardy---------------------- Add to that a proper CM who can pass the ball as well as tackle in this window, and a big lump No.9 striker for a plan B, and I'm confident of a strong finish to the season.

I'd swap out Morgan for Evans but next season Benk should come back and if the hype is justified we'll have an incredible team, with three academy players and four or five England players.

I think Vardy would love playing with Maddison and Barnes. Putting he's goals to one side, some of his passing at WBA, shows great vision. Just hope people give time when he comes back, for me he needs to be given a really run in the side, not just game here and there.
