A bit-part player since League One? He played all but three games in the next two seasons, 42 in 2012/13, 30 in the Championship winning season, 29 in 2015/16, 32 in 2016/17 including four in the Champions League.

Whether he was a great player is up for debate but he was certainly involved heavily until fairly recently.

Just out of interest how many of these games did he start.

I don't get why anybody would want to post anything other than well wishes in this thread to be honest.

this is what gets me the most. whether you think he’s rubbish at footy or whatever, he’s been here since forever and he’s done some pretty remarkable things for the club. and he seems like a fu cking belter fella.

love you kingy.

This, this and this.

Probably my favourite ever player. Legend.

Great player over the years and been a loyal servant to the club but like all good players / legends, there is a time to move on and let the next legend come through. No place for sentimentality, doesn't diminish what they have done, time to move on and find a new one from the next generation

At a time where footballers are slagged off (quite rightly in some cases) for being disloyal, having a bad attitude, sulking, greedy etc etc, the criticism that King received from some of our supporters was beyond belief.

Contributed to the League 1 title, Championship title, Great Escape and the Premier League win.  Never complained, always a team player but perhaps most importantly, when he was needed, was always fit and ready to play.

Derby are now in possession of the best midfielder in the Championship and I hope he plays a part in getting them up.

The man is class through and through.

If he does get Derby promoted and joins them permanently however, I will boo him to fvck when they come down the Khun Vichai Stadium.

? Might be one of our own but give over!!!

Er.. I don’t think anyone says anything to dispute this...

A lot of people have been calling him the invisible Man for 10 years

Fair shout and to be fair I can’t disprove that but I think the general consensus is he is a legend. What he has achieved for us has been universally approved over the years. Anyone trying to say otherwise (which I haven’t seen) is, in all honesty, a monumental tw@t and I reckon 99% of posters in here would agree

Who?

Do you need names & dates? He's right there are people who have been openly critical of AK on here for quite some time, same as pretty much every other player none of them are immune to a good slagging off. The general consensus is probably that he's a club legend but there are always going to be a few who dig him out for not being good enough, lack of ambition because he's content to be a bit part player sitting on the bench etc etc

I think you are a bit clouded due to you knowing someone in his family.

The truth is, he has been a bit part player since league one, and reality is Pearson, Claudio, Shakespeare and puel preferred better midfielders over him.

Without the risk of being called a name, to use mendy’s loan away as justification in your argument is a tad unfair, he had a serious injury, and struggled for form and fitnesses, and has returned better for it, I’m not a massive fan, but is a far better player than king, hence king didn’t get in the squad.

King has done a job here as a squad player for years, but let’s not pretend, nobody else would have paid him I believe around £50 grand a week, and I’m guessing that’s the reason he’s not left permanently, as he has a massive contract he might as well see out

Massive contract until June. When he leaves on a free and gets a big signing on fee.

i don’t personally call him a legend, but i won’t tolerate a bad word said about him. he’s been a model pro and an excellent servant of the club and deserves respect for being loyal up until he was practically forced out of the club.

? Can’t work out wether you are agreeing or disagreeing with my post, yes his massive contract will run out, but he’s basically sat around on his contract, more than ever since puel appeared, took a half season loan last season and again this season, and even on loan will still receive full pay, no matter who pays it.

King has been loyal as in he’s prepared to stay, but let’s not be fooled, no player wants to not play as much king, so yes he’s a long servant of the club, but a lot of that has been brought with very lucrative contracts, that in my believe nobody in their right mind would give to a very average squad player, (the amount of money, rather than the contract)and to be fair it was probably more of a disgrace giving James a new one, considering his injuries before and after signing it.

I don’t blame king, he needs the millions in the bank for when he retires, but if it bothered him not playing, he would have got his agent to get him a move after being told he didn’t make the premier league squad.

I love the guy and he has been great up to a level.

But if any company wants to offer me 50k a week, I'd be fiercely loyal too.

Money cannot buy loyalty! You're example is that of a Mercenary.

So a company offers you say 80k/year but you're already on a cushy 160k/year? It's easy to be loyal then isn't it.

Football is a short career, so earn it while you can, for sure. But anybody thinking he's been hanging around for the last 2/3 years out of loyalty are naive.

It is nothing against him whatsoever, I love the bloke!

Very ironic username for that statement ?

Haha fair play. You'd have had an argument 4-5 years ago, although even then he was behind DD and James. Not now though, I imagine he will be back up there. Although, would like to see him nail down a place and get a decent run of games and show he's still got something to offer here.

Frank Lampard thanks Leicester City as Derby seal 'difficult' deal for Andy King
'He's a great addition for us' - Lampard on King

Frank Lampard has expressed his gratitude to Leicester City after Andy King joined Derby County on loan.

City’s longest serving player made the transfer deadline day switch across the East Midlands in a search for regular first team football.

The Wales international has made just one appearance for the Foxes this season, as a 72nd-minute substitute in the FA Cup defeat by Newport County, and was not included in the club's Premier League squad.

King was linked with a move to the Championship team last summer and, having finally completed the transfer, joins a Derby side managed by Lampard, who the midfielder used to watch from the sidelines when a ball boy at Chelsea.

Lampard has expressed his delight at having signed King, and was keen to thank City for their co-operation in ensuring the man who has won the top three divisions at Leicester was able to move to Pride Park.

He said: "It was a difficult one for us because it was a deal that would have been difficult for us to do.

"Leicester helped us, really, in that way, so we managed to get him in and he's a great addition for us in terms of numbers in midfield."

Leicester are believed to be paying a significant portion of King's wages during his loan stay.

On what King will add to Derby's squad, Lampard said: "He will bring quality.
"He's a good footballer, with good energy, good experience - he won the Premier League, won the Championship and played in a good team for a long time.

"He was fundamental to them (Leicester City) over the years, in the rise of Leicester and what they did, and I know he's a good lad."
