fazzyfox Posted 1 March 2019 Posted 1 March 2019 A new manager often brings his own philosophies and opinions and sees the squad with fresh eyes. Aside from the natural progression of the young players do you think he will see any of the current squad in a different light to Puel and do you you think any of the squad will see it as a new start and benefit from it. Until the transfer window there's usually at least one player or one tweek that immediately shows the new managers stamp on the side - what will his be? For example (and these aren't my opinions just examples):- Will Gray have a greater share of the RW selections over Ghezzal? Slimani and Silva may not have played their last game for us Will he make Jonny Evans captain (Not a lazy Northern Irish connection but a serious consideration)? Would he utilise Ricardo as a winger and bring back Simpson? Sometimes? Will he include Matty James in his squad? Ever? Ask the board to pay off contract and release him? Kaputska and Diabate will get a chance in the summer friendlies? How will he deal with Morgan this summer, if we keep Maguire and Benkovic returns? Will he find a way of getting Choudhury at least on the bench? Will Mendy now continue to miss out, more to do with system than Rodgers? Will he see Tielemans as a realistic signing option? He'll immediately put U23 strikers on the bench instead of Shinji? He'll beg Fuchs not to quit because Fuchs's never quit! He'll swap the Kop with the Family stand? Personally I don't think he'll do anything to negatively effect the confidence of the younger players, he'll make Chilwell, Barnes and Maddison feel ten feet tall, whilst we can expect Evans and Gray to play every game. He'll see Evans as a Mr reliable from day one and he could survive the return of Benkovic in the summer (and presuming Maguire stays). Mendy and Morgan won't be allowed to follow stinker after stinker with continued selection, hopefully nobody can, albeit that Puel finally sorted that in his final weeks at the club. Since the January window we don't have many senior pros excluded from the matchday squad at the moment other than James, Simpson and usually Soyuncu, there's no real wild card candidate to emerge and impress him enough to put them in. Of the loanees maybe Kaputska will get a chance but don't know how he's doing this season? Diabate just seems to have his buttons set to random, he's young with flair but can anyone get anything reliable out of him?
urban fox Posted 1 March 2019 Posted 1 March 2019 Yes the rest of the season will certainly be interesting, not to mention the summer. It would not surprise me at all if one of the so called "has-beens" suddenly gets a new lease of life. Every manager has his favourites, that's just the way it is, but this can also have a negative effect on those that get overlooked. Take the likes of Simpson, Shinji etc, (Fuchs a different case was always retiring) obviously realized that under Puel they were going to get very limited game time, contracts due to expire at the end of the season but, if we believe what we hear, not allowed to leave the club either. This is hardly likely to spur them on. Yes there is the argument that they should be fighting for a place, but sometimes it is obvious that they will never get that under certain managers. A new regime brings a clean slate. and possibly new opportunities for the forgotten ones. There could be another, as yet undiscovered gem in the academy or a total left field signing in the summer. Who knows, he may even get Nacho and Ghezzal looking like real footballers. Exciting times

To start with yes. He'll want to make the most of Gray's pace. Ghezzal as back up. Slimani and Silva may not have played their last game for us SIlva might come back but depends of Tielemans. Slimani unlikely to return Will he make Jonny Evans captain (Not a lazy Northern Irish connection but a serious consideration)? Potential captain material but Kasper next in line for me should he stay. Would he utilise Ricardo as a winger and bring back Simpson? Sometimes? Sometimes! Will he include Matty James in his squad? Ever? Ask the board to pay off contract and release him? Out on loan. He's been out of action for 4 years. Not gonna happen for him here now. Kaputska and Diabate will get a chance in the summer friendlies? Reckon so. Cabbage hasn't got over his bad patch! Diabate wont dislodge Albrighton or now Barnes. Don't believe they'll make the grade. How will he deal with Morgan this summer, if we keep Maguire and Benkovic returns? Morgan to go. Phenomenal servant but his time has passed. Benkovic to return but Maguire possibly to go. Will he find a way of getting Choudhury at least on the bench? Yes. Unlike other subs he has impressed. Would be foolish not to utilise him more. Will Mendy now continue to miss out, more to do with system than Rodgers? N'Didi will get the nod over him when push comes to shove I reckon. Mendy has his critics but he's not the worst squad player we have at the club. Will he see Tielemans as a realistic signing option? Would say not. Lure of Champions League football elsewhere combined with good contract would be tempting. He'll immediately put U23 strikers on the bench instead of Shinji? No. Shinji will still be called upon to close out a game should we find ourselves winning a close game with 10/15 minutes to go. He'll get a send off before the season is out. He'll beg Fuchs not to quit because Fuchs's never quit! Not unless we move the club NBA style to New York!! He'll swap the Kop with the Family stand? We want him the be the architect behind a top half finish and the odd cup run. He's not the architect modelling the stadium overhaul/expansion!!

LCCFox96 Posted 1 March 2019 Posted 1 March 2019 Think Demarai Gray will be a big winner under Rodgers in terms of game time. I expect Mendy could be the biggest loser but that was in part expected due to Tielemans' arrival. Few players I'm interested to see what Rodgers makes of are Iheanacho, Soyuncu and Ghezzal. Also Vardy with the striker rumours in the press, although he'll obviously start whenever fit until the summer

Vardinio'sCat Posted 1 March 2019 Posted 1 March 2019 Clean slate for all of them, in my book. Let's see if FT has written off anyone prematurely. It will say a lot about Puel if, for example, Kelachi started to find some form.
Wymsey Posted 1 March 2019 Posted 1 March 2019 Think he'll get the most out of Gray and Ghezzal in particular. They've both been in great positions in general, but rarely do the right thing with their decision-making.
Stadt Posted 1 March 2019 Posted 1 March 2019 Iheanacho will hopefully get hooned up the arse and it'll resurrect his career here. Ideally he can stop Slimani being a whingey twat and convince him to have a part to play as well.
Mike Oxlong Posted 1 March 2019 Posted 1 March 2019 Expecting him to bring back Claude as his number 2 just to handle press conferences and to give the pre match and half time talks
StriderHiryu Posted 2 March 2019 Posted 2 March 2019 I guess there are three players I could see this happening to: - Ihenacho. Massive disappointment since he signed, but he has some degree of natural talent. My gut feeling is that though he's a good finisher he hasn't got the rest of the all round game to suddenly start tearing it up, but you never know. - Adrien Silva. This all depends on if Monaco sign him and we do / don't get Tielemans, but Rodgers does like to have one metronome / recycling ball player in his teams to get moves going. Mendy could do this but it's what Silva seemed to do in his "better" games for us. This one has to be the biggest long shot but it's possible simply because on his wages we will find it hard to shift him. - Hamza Choudhury. This is the one that I think is most likely. At Liverpool, Rodgers turned Jordan Henderson from a nothing player into one that found his place. Essentially he's a hard running player that facilitates the forwards to do their thing and helps win the ball back quickly if they lose it. A real unsung hero type of a job. That's right up Hamza's street as he has the energy and physicality and can tackle too. We have tried Mendy / Ndidi and Choudhury before against the big teams, but I could see two of them being used in the same way Liverpool use Fabinho / Henderson / Wijnaldum. Those positions are also extremely stamina intensive which is why Liverpool also signed Keita and Chamberlain. So I don't know if Hamza would be a starter, but I could easily see a situation where we end up with "Hide Hamza" threads. This is not taking into account players in the first team as I think it's pretty obvious that we will keep faith with Barnes, Gray, Maddison, etc. Barnes is the one I think will grow the most. He's already made Tottenham and Man United full backs look like idiots in his first real spell in the first team. He just needs some confidence and calmness in the final third, but I think this will come after having seen his games for WBA whereas for Gray this is always in question. He really reminds me of Riyad who also looked good in patches but was inconsistent before Ranieri found the "ON" switch and pressed it!
H.a.r.r.y Posted 2 March 2019 Posted 2 March 2019 i just hope he doesn't leave Hamza out, he's ****ing sick
Hanan96 Posted 2 March 2019 Posted 2 March 2019 With chilwell currently not that good at crossing, I'm affraid ten feet taller of him will unable to see the ball clearly and affect his crossing worse

Dan Posted 3 March 2019 Posted 3 March 2019 Iheanacho's the big one for me. Rodgers will make or break him here I'd imagine.
Aus Fox Posted 3 March 2019 Posted 3 March 2019 As with always when a new manager comes in, it’s a new start for everyone. Rodgers will already know exactly how he wants to play and the type of player he needs to play each role. he will quickly asses each players abilty to perform the required role, including those out on loan. I expect to see at the end of the season a few players replaced and maybe he can find roles for the likes of Silva, who may want prefer a different style of play to Puel.
