Leicester Fosse

Anyone else remember the similar referendum we had on the stadium remaining smoking/no smoking? Think it was against Derby in 2004?

Big bloke next to me in K was puffing away all afternoon and couldn't believe it when everyone around him held up the card for no smoking. lol

Bring back the black shirts with the blue sash!

The only acceptable kit if we were to ever change from blue.

I can't  believe how many people including me saying they voted fosse, in the ground when the cards went up we were outnumbered about 5000 to one.

I voted City because my mum asked me to and she’s been going since the 60s. Kind of regret that now given how unique the name would be, especially with the rise of Man City.

If I’d have known she was going to go all Brexit years later I would never have listened to her on voting anything!

Voted Fosse, still would. City is so common and has been hijacked by Man City.

Even back in the day Foulger on the radio commentary would nearly always refer to the opposition as City if that was their handle it used to annoy me no end.

Of course the unique part will always be Leicester.

LFFC sounds a bit dodgy mind

Even LCFC is not unique Lancaster City Football Club, they even bought our old Filbo seats with LCFC on them.

The pros of changing back to Fosse:-

1. Unique and historically interesting.

2. Removes the chance of the C in City being mispronounced as Sh.

3. Removes the Man City issue. 'Leicester playing at City' grinds my ears.

4. Great marketing and publicity opportunity.

5. Parity with other good names e.g. Nottm Forest.

6. One less syllable to enunciate.

The cons:-

1. Fossils might be the new nickname.

The pros win 6-1.

The overwhelming city vote It summed the City up tbh. Unadventurous. Unremarkable. Unoriginal.

The club was taken over by 250 winners with a few bob. It was they who proposed it , as a way of breaking our (til then) mediocrity.

The crowd sang loud and proud 'there's only one City'. Which , of course, was inaccurate and was the whole point of the name change.

Hey ho. Win some & lose some!

Would've been nice to see us mark this with a one off kit against Arsenal.

Yeh I think at that time we were wearing stripes as funds were low for blue dye after the war. Would have been cool to see us in that kit either as a reference to the war or us becoming City but I suppose it's too late for either now.

Also I'm disappointed the chocolate and light blue halved kit hasn't made a reappearance in some way:

I'd love us to go back to Leicester Fosse. It has a uniqueness and history about it that city really lacks.

But the majority of our footballing history has been under the City banner.

Fosse is very unique and I get that argument but it's also quite a dull, bland sounding word. City's got a more vibrant and positive ring to the sound imo.

Missed opportunity to sing an evangelical classic

To the old rugged Fosse, I will ever be true

Its shame and reproach gladly bear

Then He'll call me some day to my home far away

Where His glory forever I'll share

So I'll cherish the old rugged Fosse

Till my trophies at last I lay down

I will cling to the old rugged Fosse

And exchange it some day for a crown

Me too. But I was definitely in the minority!

What even is Fosse/ its relevance? Why were we called it in the first place? Is it just cos of the road or something else?

Can understand people wanting something more unique and the heritage but 'Fosse' is terrible

To be fair we should have had a season in this kit ( our first As “Leicester City”)!

It was a mini brexit moment. I was roundly heckled by a rather opinionated old dear who 'playfully' tried to wrestle my F and turn it to a C

She's probably dead by now, so you've had the last laugh
