RowlattsFox Posted 31 May 2019 Posted 31 May 2019 Got no problem with players like Drinkwater signing for the big clubs, they have to believe they can make it. Sometimes it doesn't work out but then you have to get out ASAP, its not easy with the big contracts to just cut your losses and leave. I'd be surprised if Drinkwater recovers to a good level after this.

Can’t believe just how poor Alexis looks now! Ozil has always blown hot and cold and more fool Arsenal for giving him the ludicrous contract they did. But Sanchez...? At the time I thought Utd had done some great business there tbh

Green has over 650 appearances to his name and was 38 when he signed for Chelsea. Realistically at his age he's only going to be backup. If we're talking goalkeepers, former loanee Stuart Taylor played the grand total of 19 first team games from February 2008 to May 2018, and was still on contract at Southampton a year ago.
broughtonblue Posted 31 May 2019 Posted 31 May 2019 Who can blame them when you listen to Scott Sinclair , went from Swansea to man city in 2012 to 2015 and made 13 appearances , was interviewed after and was asked if he regretted going from a first team player to being a loan player. His response, I'm 26 now, got another 10 years hopefully in me, not only am I financially secure, but so are my parents, and in the future my children and hopefully grandchildren should be as well. Cant really argue with that

Chelsea offer him European football every season and the chance to win trophies. Yeah, in hindsight, it didn't work but every player takes a chance when they move clubs. People said the same thing about Kante when he left but it worked out for him. Either way, just let it go. He's not our player or our problem anymore. Vardy rejected arsenal under the same circumstances

Was pretty well know he joined Chelsea as part of his coaching education and he was excited to watch/learn from (at the time the well regarded) Sarri

Fair to say Arsenal were less attractive than Chelsea. Vards of course an one off too

Just because one person has done something someone else should do the same? And I recall that Vardy to Arsenal thread. There was me and a few posters defending him if he did leave and the rest were slagging him off as usual. For some reason some of you think every player should stay at the club.

If you truly believe in your ability, which you should, then go and give it a go if you want. So it's not about the "grass being greener" it's about being given that opportunity. So many people in their careers, whether in football or not, might look back at what could have been.# Footballers can't win really because if they stay loyal to the club they love and don't win much (great players like Shearer, Gerrard, Le Tissier) then people take the piss because they didn't win much, but if they do leave to win more they get called money grabbing.

I’m not and wasn’t criticising any player, was just proving that not all players leave to earn more money or win more trophies
fuchsntf Posted 1 June 2019 Posted 1 June 2019 Drinkwater with his top performances, put himself in the market for a top EPL team,he earnt that right to go and take on that next level.. he played many years, upping and improving his potential...He had put in his shift over those hard first few years, unfortunately once he had the ultimate season that niggling period of injuries wouldn't go away,he couldn't shake them off!!!? Inbetween..other top player came along and pushed his own shining-star down..!! Shame but this happens in sport...!!! This topic could be relevant for some other various club players...but not DD,and neither for other reasons, not A.king nor James. These type of players ARE trying to rekindle again their late-careers... We could even see at our own club,a player pick himself up and prove a solid addition to club, squad, and team for BRodgers... And that is our own possible small miracle ...Amartey. Which shows the other side of the argument...
David Hankey Posted 1 June 2019 Posted 1 June 2019 There isn't enough room here to list every single player who "just collects their wages". Unfortunately, it is seen all too often in football and in particular the EPL.

The Horse's Mouth Posted 1 June 2019 Posted 1 June 2019 Think Drinky had a bit of a chip on his shoulder at failing at one of the biggest clubs in the world and then being offered the chance to join the 2nd most successful club since 04 in the country, you can't really blame him for taking it. The people who bum kante to death but give Drinky's move stick are unbelievable. Shame how its worked out, but he's earning good money and he's already achieved a premier league title.
volpeazzurro Posted 1 June 2019 Posted 1 June 2019 In my mid 30s, a long time ago, I played a few games for the Aberdale pub. The bar manager at that time was Norman Leet and we convinced him to turn out for one game. Honestly, it was like signing Roberto Carlos! My shame is I got dropped for a couple of games but still claimed a free pint afterwards. It's shameful I know but feel a lot better now for getting it off my chest. I suppose me Drinky and Bogarde therefore have something in common. I hope you'll forgive me.
Monsell1976 Posted 1 June 2019 Posted 1 June 2019 Hasn’t bale infuriated the Madrid fans by saying he happy to play golf and see out the 36 million a year contract if they don’t want him to play.
