urban.spaceman Posted 10 July 2019 Posted 10 July 2019 Leicester City Announce Partnership With Stonewall Leicester City have announced an official partnership with Stonewall to further strengthen the Football Club’s commitment to the LGBT community in Leicestershire. Published 12 mins ago - Leicester City committed to making football everyone’s game- The Club have joined the Stonewall Diversity Champions Programme- Stonewall are the UK’s leading charity of lesbian, gay, bi and trans equality Working alongside Stonewall, the UK’s leading charity for lesbian, gay, bi and trans equality, the Club will help to tackle homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, while looking at ways to encourage and promote equality and inclusiveness. The partnership will see the Club work with Stonewall to encourage participation in the LGBT community across all levels of football by creating an inclusive and welcoming environment, free from discrimination. These goals extend to all on-field participation as well as support for those who work or aspire to work in an off-field role. Helping to create a safe and inclusive matchday experience at King Power Stadium is a key part of that vision and continues to be an important platform for the Football Club to support the LGBT community. The Club have also signed up to be a Stonewall Diversity Champion, a programme which consists of more than 750 organisations who help to create workplaces that are welcoming to LGBT people. Stonewall will be supporting the Club with its Equality Action Plan and Equality Champions Network as it strives to achieve the Equality Standard Advanced Award, while staff will receive bespoke training sessions to improve their understanding of the LGBT community and the charity’s wider work. Leicester City supported Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign at last season’s home fixture against Watford, where rainbow armbands were worn for team captains, while a Rainbow Laces pitch flag, rainbow-coloured ball plinths and substitution boards were used to back the initiative. The Club also support the Leicester Pride celebration each year and work closely with Foxes Pride, an LCFC supporter group for the LGBT community. Like Stonewall, Leicester City are committed to making football a game for everybody and do not tolerate homophobic or discriminatory language. If you hear any such language at King Power Stadium during a match, please contact a steward or report it by text message to 60066 (start your message with the word FOXES). On non-matchdays, please email [email protected] or call 0344 815 5000 (Option 4). For more information about Stonewall, click HERE.
boots60 Posted 10 July 2019 Posted 10 July 2019 I know I'm going to be criticised for this but.... WTF has a persons sexual persuasion got to do with LCFC or any other football club?

I guess it's more to do with the club supporting people in the community who are targeted and treated with prejudice because of their sexual preference when that shouldn't be the case

Because you obviously didn't read the article: "Like Stonewall, Leicester City are committed to making football a game for everybody and do not tolerate homophobic or discriminatory language."
Vacamion Posted 10 July 2019 Posted 10 July 2019 It seems that the western world stands on the brink of a massive extremist cultural step backwards, a reversion to prejudices of the past. The rights of minorities have not, in my adult lifetime, needed more protection. So this is a good thing.

UniFox21 Posted 10 July 2019 Posted 10 July 2019 Hopefully the more big clubs and companies support these types of things, the more people will begin to be educated and reduce the levels of abuse we see.

It shouldn't have anything to do with it but while homophobic abuse continues to be rife in the stands then the football club are doing absolutely the right thing by taking a stand against it. Hopefully one day it isn't an issue but while it invariably is, it needs to be tackled. If clubs take the 'not our problem' approach then abuse and other types of discrimination at matches will only proliferate and no-one in the right mind wants that - I'd hope.

Australia is currently in the throws of trying to enact a "religious freedoms" act that will legalise homophobia, just sayin

Their protests have included hilarious placards stating "Education Not Indoctrination" and people telling reporters that homosexuality might be legal but that doesn't make it moral. Bizarre times.

I could give plenty of examples where certain majority groups are given the reverse treatment whereby any rights of expression are removed. Historically, it seems the way to right wrongs of the past are to swing the pendulum too far other way. Regardless, hard to find much fault with the club's decision to align with them.

It's not about sexual persuasion, it's about prejudice and being treated the same as everybody else regardless of sexual preference. Homophobia is still rife and needs to be stamped out.
RumbleFox Posted 10 July 2019 Posted 10 July 2019 Great news, another reason to be proud of our great club. Welcome aboard. X

Pointless because a person's race should have nothing to do with football? You've actually hit the nail on the head without quite meaning to. This is important exactly BECAUSE a person's sexuality should have nothing to do with football, that's precisely the point of the partnership. X

X A person's sexuality should have nothing to do with sport. But there is every chance in the future the trans issue is going to cause serious problems in women's sport, like it or not.

Secondly there are, of course, issues with trans women playing CIS women in sports which need to be looked at but..... Thirdly, those issues have nothing to do with trying to stamp out homophobia. Fourthly, it seems churlish to put a negative slant on a positive story. Fifthly, I just wanted to say fifthly. X

X Negative or not if you want to censor comments that are in no way sexist or offensive, merely on observation on a important issue maybe you have the problem.

Censor? I responded to and challenged your comments, the exact opposite or censorship? I fully believe in freedom of speech and would never try to censor? X

The organisation that I work for and represent bought a motion to its national Annual Conference condemning the actions of the state of Israel with regards to its appalling treatment of Palestinians and a very powerful group from the Jewish Board of Deputies attended and called it anti Semitic.
