"play" is being generous but...

Ryan Bertrand was on a business football podcast this week, said the most he earned was £120k a week... and that it wasn't at Chelsea or Southampton.

:revenge:

How cryptic!

That is sickening. Worse free transfer we've ever made, and up there in general in terms of worst value for money signing ever surely on that wedge.

Also, how on earth did we pay him more than he was ever on before at that age?! Free or not that is simply horrific.

Not so much play but I couldn’t think where else to put this. I saw Martin o’Neil at Oasis this evening!

I saw Ian Stringer there last night...

lcfc twitter is now in meltdown as they expected him to sign for Barca or Real Madrid it seems?

Everton is bang on his level imho. Either them or Brighton....

I feel like he's the kind of player that would do well in Serie A

Hope KDH does well at Everton. Shame a year was wasted at Chelsea but he was never good enough for that level. His technical limitations were always highlighted when he was on the pitch with Maddison. He'll put in a shift though and has an eye for a goal so might work out under Moyes

I see Nyoni is playing for Liverpool again - surely they must have paid us our compensation by now - it’s an absolute piss take that we’re copping a PSR points deduction when this is still outstanding after nearly two years

I’d assumed it was all sorted “behind the scenes” at this point.

It’ll be interesting how he gets on long term.

Also on KDH, I’m not surprised he’s moving on after a season.

He is a solid Premier League midfielder and will have a good career.

To break into that Chelsea team is difficult for elite players though. They’re finally pushing back to the level of Manchester City it would seem.

£28m is a mental amount of money to spend for him IMO. Hope we have a sell on clause.

Attacking midfielder with 3 goals in over 4.5k minutes in the Prem.

Its a good decision for him. Reminds me of Scott Parker back int he day - he gave it his all and wasn't close to making it as a first team regular, sees more players coming in and makes the tough call.

100% this.

Scott Parker and even Steve Sidwell, good players, however not at the level. We are only talking about minor differences here by the way!

Spot on, and you can never fault players for backing themselves to make the move.

I wouldn’t say wasted, still played his part in 2 trophies and probably was paid decently

Fair point. Financially I'm sure it was good for him and he does have 2 winners medals out of it, but in terms of his development as a footballer, I think it was a wasted year just at the point he was reaching his peak age. I'm not liking alot of Everton's transfer business though so could find himself in another relegation battle

this could be one season I don't want the perennial un-flushable team to finally go down

He got to train with some pretty good footballers in Enzo's breakout season. A team who did well many competitions. These things bread winning mentality. Not been left hanging as dead wood as the club moved him on somewhere that he will likely be a nailed on starter. I would say its been a good season for him. Certainly better than playing in a team that lost everyweek and couldn't score a goal for months.
