Nadiem Amiri

“Leicester City ‘compete’ with another club to sign Euro U21 star, has €14m release clause

Nadiem Amiri has one year left on his contract at Hoffenheim and has so far not responded to the renewal offer made by the club, claims Sport Bild on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old’s future looks to be away from the Bundesliga side and most likely to be at Bayer Leverkusen.

However, Leverkusen will face a challenge from Leicester City as the Foxes also ‘compete’ with them for the midfielder’s signature.

He has a release clause of €14m in his contract, which is only valid until the end of the month.

Sport Bild suggests Hoffenheim may let the player leave for the same price in August since he will have only a year left on his contract.

Regarding Brendan Rodgers’ side, the report doesn’t provide any additional details apart from the claim that Leicester are competing with Leverkusen for Amiri.

Amiri was part of the Germany squad that lost to Spain in the Euro U21 final, and during the tournament he scored three goals and registered two assists in five appearances.”

Central midfielder but can also play further forward and on the left wing, would be good cover for Maddison, 3 goals and 2 assists in less than 10 games of playtime in the league

Played in every game of the u21 European Championship for Germany, mainly as a left winger, 3 goals and 2 assists

For the low fee, not really any risk, highly rated, definitely worth it

Also is Bild reliable at all? One of the main sources in Germany

Centre Mid....ermm..ok

Mainly played as an attacking midfielder when he was younger, past couple of season he is playing deeper

Kind of player who would come in to cover for Maddison

Bild is basically German's Sun / Marca / l'equipe

No, it isn't. L'Equipe at least focus on football mostly and are pretty neutral, less sensationalist in their reporting. I really like them.

Bild per se is gutter journalism. There's a reason it is known as Blöd (stupid) in the public.

SportBild, their sister publication, comes across as slightly less boulevard-ish, but the point still stands.

His goal scoring and assist record was outstanding last season over admittedly a very small sample size of 1039 mins in the Bundesliga and U21 Euro's.  He was involved in a goal or an assist every 115 minutes.

We need cover for Maddison and Tielemans and don't have a natural replacement in the squad. At €14m it looks good business and he can also play wide left.

Would love this but it's not gonna happen. He's one of the best young players in Germany and at that price he'll have every club in Europe chasing him. He wouldn't come to Leicester with no European football to be 3rd choice. Most likely, given the source, it's just an agent trying to get more money out of someone else so they've thrown our name in. Would love to be proven wrong though.

He started the first three matches of Germany's U21 tournament on the bench and was a used sub in the first three group games. That would indicate to me that he's not really an interest to the most elite clubs.

Acording to transfermarkt, he got an ankle ligament injury on the last game of the season. The first fixture of the tournament was under a month later so I think it's fair to say he might have still been recovering. There would've been no point aggrivaring the injury against Denmark, Serbia and Austria. He was brought into the team for the games that mattered after being allowed time to recover and then scores 3 goals in 2 games in the semi-final and final.
