The Polish winger spent last season on loan at City's sister club OH Leuven

Leicester City winger Bartosz Kapustka is back in training after recovering from a serious knee injury.

The Poland international suffered a cruciate ligament tear while on loan at City’s sister club OH Leuven last March.

He underwent successful surgery and has been in rehabilitation since, describing the gym as his “new home” during the summer.

He is now back on the training pitches at City’s Belvoir Drive headquarters, filmed in the warm-up last Thursday as the club prepared for the fixture with Manchester United.

Once back to full fitness, Kapustka will only be able to play in Carabao Cup or Under-23s fixtures, with the 22-year-old not registered in City’s 25-man Premier League squad.

Kapustka joined City for around £2m three years ago after impressing for Poland at Euro 2016.

However, he has made just three appearances for the club, all in cup competitions.

In 2017-18, he went on loan to Freiburg in the Bundesliga, playing only nine games, and then spent last season with Leuven, scoring three goals before being stretchered off in a 1-0 defeat to Tubize.

He had captained Poland Under-21s to a successful European Championships qualifying campaign, but the injury ruled him out of the finals in June.

Despite his lack of his appearances at City, the winger said he has “high hopes” for his career at the club after a conversation with Brendan Rodgers over the summer.

Speaking to Polish media in June, Kapustka said: “It may seem that I am unwanted there, but I feel great at Leicester.

“I came to the club at the end of the season with injuries, I was also at the last match against Chelsea in the Premier League.

“The club's employees, the president, the guys from the team – everyone welcomed me very warmly, with openness, a smile, respect. I feel that everyone supports me in this difficult moment, wishes me the best, and does not treat me like a mercenary.

“I also met the coach Brendan Rodgers, I had the opportunity to talk to him about my future in the club. These were very positive words, giving me high hopes.

“I will say this: everything depends now on me. I am not written down as a loss there.

“I do not think about the next loan, for this moment only recovery is what counts for me, I am not looking ahead.”

The smart situation for all involved would have been to sign him but send him back on loan straight away. Surely we didn’t think he’d be straight into the first team.

I feel we halted his growth and it will be hard for him to get up to this level now.

Hope the lad gets back to full fitness and gets game time in English football, be sad if we release him and he turns out to be another Kramaric...

An international winger.

Our prayers are answered.

It is February. Kapustka has started 10 games in a row on the left wing, with 5 goals and 5 assists to his name so far in the season. He has somehow struck up an attacking partnership with Chilwell. Leicester sit 5th in the Premier League table. Kapustka gets a chant about having a dick bigger than Mahrez's.

Or by February he struggles in league 2

and is fondly remembered as the little cabbage who played like a cabbage

I'm glad that as well as we are doing we can still find a negative to dwell on.

Good luck to Kapustka and I'm sure we will see him in the Prem in January

We've picked up a nasty habit of stalling a few players careers recently, hope he's successful somewhere abroad if not here.

Well, give him some time to find back to his old self. It'll take a while for him to adapt to the high-pressure, high-intensity matchday experience.

Let's see how he does in training, give him the odd cameo here and there and hopefully, he'll come good again.

Welcome back, Cabbage!

Personally, I could see Brendan liking Kapustka. He could do a job in that winger, centre mid, number 10 hybrid role that Brendan loves. Hope he gets back to full fitness whatever happens, just look at Matty James to see how injuries can ruin a players career. Fingers crossed Matty gets back to regular playing.

On the occasions that I've seen him play, you could definitely see potential and creativity, hampered by low level of fitness. I thought he looked decent during that farcical cup tie against Millwall - but then again, our best player on the pitch that day was probably Molla Wague - until he dislocated his shoulder.

I fear Your fingers will end up permanently crossed if you are waiting to James playing regularly in the EPL.

But we've also massively enhanced a fair few players careers as well.

There's more to it than us stalling their careers; If they don't settle in the country/club then they won't succeed or kick on as expected

I totally forgot he played for us. I was quite buzzing when we signed this lad.

I don't mean first team players but plucking the like likes out of Kapustka, Hughes, Thomas etc from clubs where they're playing regularly then to shove them into the u23s isn't on because I'm sure they were never told that when we signed them.

Agreed.

We haven't got the hang of picking up lower league players and turning them into first team or higher league players yet. Hoping Justin won't fall into the same trap as the others so far.

We seem to have started to learn by loaning out more u23 players.

Needs a run of games, should drop down to league one and play a whole season

I had this very conversation – regarding Kapustka – in the summer with a fellow Fox. I suggested that we should send Kapustka to a mid-to-low Championship team, or League One, so he gets plenty of games and gets used to the frantic pace of English football. Might learn something and who knows, help his development.

My mate said it would be "madness" to send him to League One. "You don't develop into a Premier League player down there."

This from a man who wears a Vardy shirt to each game.
