Big fan of JJ but he played like a non-league player tonight.

Doesn't seem to have recovered from that 45 minutes with England imho

He’s been shite since coming back from injury. He’s seriously struggling.

He is so weak in a challenge, gets overpowered time after time.  Another player that has gone backwards

Yep the Rodgers version of the Midas touch. Everything he touches eventually turns to shit.

He just cannot defend like you NEED a FB to.

He started very brightly with him making some very positive runs, he deserves big credit for winning that penalty.

Sadly, that’s when the compliments end, he’s weak and bottles 50/50’s.

Doesn’t seem to like defending 1v1 either, hopefully a new gaffer improves him, he needs to knuckle down and like the rest of the players “work harder” on the pitch.

That man marking of Ndidi for Dier’s goal was comical between him and Wilf.

Another who is wasting a shirt currently but the alternative is Thomas. I think both are good players but are both in a rut and have been badly affected to the point of regression by Rodgers (and injury in JJs case).

He did well to win the pen but defensive lot where it matters, so frail.

Makes it even more of a joke Castagne was dropped before JJ and Thomas as he is more experienced and seems to be able to keep a higher level of performance despite the management.

I was good to see both full backs play such a key part in the goals (our goals)! We need that with the lack of side options. But with BR in charge we are always going to be so wide open defensively and so badly organised.

Probably doesn't help that Spurs changed their shape, but we failed to respond to it again. For the last 20-25 minutes, look how exposed we were. Ndidi and then Soumare of position. Justin and Castagne would push up together probably by instruction. We'd lose the ball and then be criminally exposed all over the place.

Totally agree.

BUT that doesn’t justify/excuse JJ being consistently so weak, he tries to win free kicks like Madders who is a scrawny playmaker.

The lad needs to hit the gym and/or sort out his mental side of bottling 50/50’s, it’s genuinely there to see in highlights that he does that regularly so not an isolated issue due to BR’s shocking tactics.

Is it just me, or is there an elephant in the room that we desperately need a proper left back?

He looks so uncomfortable out there!

This is spot on. Superb displays prior to his injury and his bizarre England call up are covering up that he’s been poor and looks to be out of position at left back now

He was fine before his injury but has been dreadful since.

i’m going to go against the grain here, he started off quite poorly but a couple of goals covered up a few weak performances and got the fans on side. eventually, he picked up form and was very good but that could simply be just a purple patch.

I think this clouded a lot of judgement and made people believe he is a left back rather than someone filling in and doing very well.

I had this argument with someone in pre-season…. he is a right back.  Whatever way you shake it, he will always be better on that side.

We are desperate for a LB. I don't know how it's been like 3 windows and we still only have right footers in defence.

We’re stuck with him aren’t we? Long contract, probably on decent wages. Nobody in their right mind would pay a fee for him surely.

Worst thing is I reckon he’d happily play for us in the championship, too. ‘Really nice lad’ type character

In other words, the sort of player we absolutely excel at signing
