so i've JUST completed AC valhalla which I bought for Christmas (I don't game massively with 2 kids, a wife and a job)  So I'm now relying on my next game coming from Game Pass.   I've done Forza Horizon, Cyberpunk and Gears 5....

Any recommendations for what to try next? I tend to like story driven single player games. I'm not into online multiplayer type things.  I do love Call of Duty, but only the actual games, not warzone...

hit me up with what's worth trying next!

Think of the games on Game Pass that are good single player games that I've actually played, I'd recommend the following:

  1. Jedi Fallen Order
  2. Alien: Isolation
  3. Hellblade
  4. Ori and it's sequel

Those are the ones I've played and would recommend.  Hellblade in particular I really enjoyed as it's quite different to the others.  There are loads of others (all the Bethesda games for instance).

Let us know which one you're dabbling with.

I've already played jedi fallen order since picking up the series X. Loved it in fairness.

I might try resident evil biohazard and rainbow six siege.

I was a bit non plussed with the Ori games. Lost interest very quickly!

Have you played Batman at all? Still can't believe that game is part of the subscription after so long, its class!

no i haven't actually. Arkham Knight? it's worth a stab?  I uninstalled Rainbow Six within about 5 minutes and Resident Evil seems a bit slow and clunky in it's controls...

That's the great thing about Games Pass, you don't have to risk chucking £50 at games that have got positive critic reviews when they definitely don't warrant them. I've downloaded a bunch of games that fit this criteria, played for 15 minutes before realising they are just not worth my time, and promptly uninstalled

Equally, I've downloaded several games that I had zero expectation for and ended up really enjoying them. I wouldn't have even considered buying The Messenger if I didn't have Games Pass, and it's ended up being one of my favourite games of recent years. Couldn't put it down til I'd 100% finished it

Absolutely. The driving mechanics are a bit meh for the Batmobile, but the fighting is brilliant and the story is very good. You don't need to have played the other games either

Control.

Single-player, story-driven metroidvania style action game with great gunplay, incredible telekinetic-based superpowers and crazy level design. It's by Remedy, and if you've played Alan Wake or Quantum Break you know what to expect. It's creepy and bonkers.

It's also one of the best looking games out there. The Ray Tracing is incredible

Likewise. I LOVED the original, Rogue Spear etc back in the day. I played it with a couple of mates recently upon their recommendation and it's just another CoD clone with a bit more realism and a few bells and whistles.

Instant turn off. I don't have the patience for multiplayer shooters anymore. They're just not fun.

Yeah, walking into a room and getting shot by some 12 year old kid isn't my idea of fun.... I want a narrative and a storyline to complete.  I fell in love with the Final Fantasy games and things like KOTR on the original Xbox and 360.  turns out that's what I enjoy...  I also loved Splinter Cell back in the day as well. that was a GREAT game.

The odd driving game as well.... but they don't hold my attention for as long.

100% with you on game pass. I genuinely don't see a downside.  "possibly" that I don't technically own the game.  but i'll take choice over ownership any day of the week.  Especially as it basically cost me naff all for 3 years doing the xbox live gold conversion.

Yeah I never liked the idea of games going digital in the first place and used to have a large games collection. After a while, the collection became a burden and I realised that I barely ever played any older games so sold pretty much everything besides the Xbox One and games I would likely play again - as it turned out, a lot of games have next to no resale value after a while. To just set a continuous loop of games downloading to try out is great - I just hope they keep adding to the library regularly

Right, it appears that due to end of marriage and my kids living half with me and half with mum the hassle of tranporting consoles is becoming a pain in the arse.

My son has an Xbox Series one. I'm tempted to get him the new Series X/ S but key point is - will he still be able to play with his mates on the Xbox One (Minecraft, Fortnite etc)?

Yes. All of those games will let him. I haven't had issues with playing with friends on old consoles for any games and certainly the obvious popular ones like call of duty and apex etc.

Xbox presentation for E3 starts in 20mins. Hoping to see a better showing for Halo:Infinite, BF2042 gameplay, Starfield gameplay, Hellblade 2, more Doom and a few more games for gamepass as they usually chuck in some at E3.

Also, Fable, Fallout:New Vegas 2 (or whatever Obsidian are up to) and Perfect Dark.

Really hope they show some good stuff for Fable, loved the original 3 and is one game I really want to get

Looks like developers are finally getting to grips with the Xbox toolset. Some incredible looking games showcased tonight. Really closed the visual gap between the launch games and PS5, and maybe even set a new benchmark for the consoles.

So glad MS held back Halo, looks a million times better than the game that was presented a year ago. Definitely worth the wait and I can't wait to play it.

Shame Sony aren't presenting at E3 this year, intrigued to see what developers are doing with the PS5 hardware 8 months downstream.

Absolutely pumped for Starfield. I doubt it'll be released on time in November, but single-player, Bethesda, RPGs and space shit is right up my street.

Forza Horizon 5 looks amazing! I've owned everyone of them and absolutely love them.

This is the one that peaked my interest the most. Since I heard about it last year I've kept my eyes and ears open on it. The little trailer we saw it looks absolutely stunning

Few quotes doing the rounds regarding "what you do" that I've pasted below.  Can't wait!

"For me, Starfield is the Han Solo simulator," Bethesda exec Ashley Cheng told The Washington Post. "Get in a ship, explore the galaxy, do fun stuff."

Speaking to The Telegraph, meanwhile, Bethesda boss Todd Howard suggested being a space explorer in Starfield would be like "NASA meets Indiana Jones meets the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen".

It's also, unsurprisingly, going to be "like Skyrim in space".

In Starfield you play as a new recruit to the Constellation program, a group of space explorers seeking answers to the big mysteries of space, some 300 years in the future.

"There are a lot of factions in the game but [Constellation is] the main one that you'll become a part of," Howard continued. "It's kind of like Skyrim in terms of the structure of the game, where you're going to be who you want to be, and then there's different factions that you can join, and really carve your own path.

"So we have one story that we're telling, and then we have a lot of other ones, like we love to do. And our hope is that each player feels like they could say, here's who I want to be in this universe - and then we're giving them an outlet to express that."

Your character's background will affect the story, among other things.

I've noticed a lot of articles recently about the Xbox exclusivity about the Bethesda games etc, and the comments sections are always an absolute dumpster fire.

Why the fvck do people get so aggressively tribal about whatever console they own? Dying on these strange hills in order to defend their chosen massive tech giant of choice?

It's properly odd virgin keyboard warrior behaviour. "Gamer" culture really is some of the most bizarrely toxic shit out there, and for what? Brand loyalty? Who cares? Because these corporations sure as fvck don't.

Twitter is absolutely hilarious for this kind of "my console is better than your console" mindset

Some proper weirdos who go into depth looking at trailers and games and even specs of the consoles trying to point out issues with stuff and how games and other consoles do it better etc.

Was wondering around game yesterday, when did new games become £70? That's a massive expense on new releases.

With things like game pass, I can't see how new titles will fly off the shelves as much as they used to
