majaco Posted 22 February 2020 Posted 22 February 2020 De Bruyne handles the ball looking at it. Praet's hands are hit by the ball when not looking at it. Iennacho is taken out by reckless play without remit. VAR favours big clubs again. Have a look at yourselves, Premier League and referees.
FantasticMrFox&Son Posted 22 February 2020 Posted 22 February 2020 Regardless of the spelling, the thrust of the argument is correct. PL protects the big boys.
st albans fox Posted 22 February 2020 Posted 22 February 2020 well sometimes it doesn’t ...... and sometimes it does ......... Therin lies the problem ....it’s no less inconsistent than not having it ......
Manwell Pablo Posted 23 February 2020 Posted 23 February 2020 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/rules_and_equipment/4524354.stm Your allowed to protect yourself (face and groin if you look into it further) He’s moved his head and literally has his hands in a cross shield in front of his face facing the ball, the balls been whacked from 10 yards at a high speed. He’s closed his eyes as soon as he thinks it’s going to hit him, It’s all good you sat there with the slow motion replays, unless you’ve been in a wall with some ****er he can strike a ball you’ve got no idea what it is like. If he’s intentionally done that to divert the shot whilst making it look like he’s protecting his face he needs testing to make sure he’s not a descendant of skywalker. it’s clear but even with your best pair of blue tinted spectacles on, it’d be quite something to call it a clear and obvious error. Quite why you’ve all got your tin foil hates on about this when Ederson committed just shy of common assault on Nacho is quite beyond me but there we are.

So Praet was intentional then and he wasn't holding his hands in a way of someone trying to avoid being struck in the mush? It's not cheating though, it's just gross incompetence.
don_danbury Posted 23 February 2020 Posted 23 February 2020 hardly new is it? just one of the things you have to accept when you follow sport. happens in all sports

Id not mind but literally every pundit that has said it should be given has called him out for trying to to do just that when the laws of the game state he has every right to do it.

He could have ducked, but by doing that he would be letting the ball through. By taking the option of using his hands instead, he was deliberately stopping the ball.

You sure about that?

Like I say, if Kevin de bruyne has somehow worked out the exact trajectory of a a football fired at him from 10 yards and managed to not only deflect it with his hands but also fool every referee and pundit going ( because even those that say it should be given agree he’s protecting his face) he’s a Jedi. I would totally not have anymore of a point if the ball taken a deflection as your then suggesting KDB should be able to read phd like maths angles in real time. Sad when you get outplayed, the clubs in a decent position, you just get nobs arguing about a handball that wouldn’t of even been a talking point without var, then using it as a talking point about var’s failings. 😂

He moves out the way and fills the gap with his arms. Simple as that. Either move, or let it hit you. He's already work out the trajectory as he's moved out the way of it. The deflection would be a different matter all together. But it didn't take one, it was straight at him. And it would have been a talking point because it was pretty easy to spot even without VAR. Yes we were outplayed in large periods, but being outplayed doesn't mean you can't be on the end of poor decisions. And don't call me knob, your mate @FIF is on a long term ban for less, personal insults are against forum rules are they not. You're better than that.

shailen Posted 23 February 2020 Posted 23 February 2020 I don't get how De Bruyne's handball was any different to Praet's. Both were facing side on with De Bruyne making his body bigger to block the ball like Praet did. I was at the ground and it did not look like VAR checked anything but can anyone confirm if they did. If there was no check, then the lack of consistency is a disgrace.
Stoopid Posted 23 February 2020 Posted 23 February 2020 We don't need to talk about Kevin... Stuff like that happens. Always has. VAR just adds a new level of tedium to the we was robbed debate. Vardy apart, don't think we really threatened that much. Decent game though.

I believe when the ball goes dead and theres a check its shown on the screen to explain the delay, otherwise it just goes on in the background whilst play continues

If they did check it then the lack of consistency really is alarming.
dayday Posted 23 February 2020 Posted 23 February 2020 It’s a penalty all day long, when you face a free kick, you put your hands around your privates, when the ball is hit, you either head it or get out of the way, or turn your back, not block it with your hands.

Dahnsouff Posted 23 February 2020 Posted 23 February 2020 Much as I do not like it, I agree with @Manwell Pablo on this. Seen them given, seen them not. As always with such decisions, it’s the inconsistency that is the issue. Thats not a reference to Praet’s chance, that was handball, he made his body bigger without the need to protect his face. You want to see real injustice, watch the Burnley v Bournemouth highlights.
