Brendan Rodgers wants more firepower up front to help out Jamie Vardy if Leicester make Europe
With the Foxes eyeing up European involvement next term, the manager knows that even ton-up Vardy can't do it all himself

Jamie Vardy of Leicester City is presented with a silver fox by Leicester City Manager Brendan Rodgers, to commemorate scoring 100 Premier League goals
But Jamie Vardy is 33, and Brendan Rodgers is aware that he could be short of options up front if Europe increases club workload
Brendan Rodgers will target more firepower this summer after admitting Leicester will need to strengthen their squad if they qualify for the Champions League.

Jamie Vardy is a Premier League goal centurion after scoring twice against Crystal Palace and will lead the line against Arsenal on Tuesday - the club he infamously turned down in 2016.

The former England international is on course for this season's Golden Boot and the 33 year old remains an integral part of Rodgers's plans, but Leicester want to add at least one forward ahead of next season.

Rodgers is also keen to sign another winger to add further competition in wide areas, with discussions over the summer transfer strategy scheduled with the club’s board for later this month.

Ahead of Leicester’s trip to the Emirates, Rodgers confirmed that he is aiming to bring in new recruits to cope with the extra demands of European competition, if they secure a top-four finish.

“There’s no doubt we need more options going forward. If we have European football next season it will increase the number of games and of course we’ll then need to improve the squad for that,” he said.

“I prefer to work with a tight squad and I don’t tend to have too many outside the group, because some will feel like they’re never close to playing.

“[But] our recruitment team are looking at targets and options for us to improve the squad.

“There is still so much up in the air with everything at the moment, but the focus now is entirely on the players we have.”

Leicester secured their first victory since the restart on Saturday by beating Crystal Palace to strengthen their grip on third place.

Arsenal are also targeting a European spot and Rodgers knows Leicester are heading into a crucial stage of the season.

“We’ve got five cup finals left and we’ll fight to the last whistle,” he said. “Hopefully by the end of the season we've achieved the objective and the dream.

“Our intention is to focus on a really tough game but we are definitely buoyed by the result and performance at the weekend.

“We have a real motivation to win and now we’ve got that confidence back that will give us a great opportunity to do that but we’ll always prepare and expect a tough game, playing against Arsenal.”

TL;DR: We want a striker and a winger, especially with Europe on the horizon. Rodgers prefers to work with a smaller squad, so don't expect a huge influx of players.

I read 'going forwards' as in we need more options in the future (not position specific) rather than we need more options up front.

None of those quotes from Rodgers indicate that we're looking specifically at a striker. I wouldn't be surprised if we were, but that article itself is a bit pointless.

Brendan said yesterday on the Radio that they will be looking to strengthen the forward line.

I think most LCFC supporters could have wrote that, the areas of weakness in the squad are pretty easy to spot.

Without doubt we need quality over quantity.

If it was any other journalist, I would agree. However, as it's Percy I tend to take what he says on us as gospel.

But yeah, nothing in there we all didn't already know.

I get so excited at the thought of a new striker coming in, don’t know why as lately they mainly been poor. Gotta change sometime. A slimani/ulloa build with vardy still of play would be amazing. Am I dreaming too much?

Attacking players with skill on the ball and to put it in the net. Goals and movement. Please.

Would love Marcus Thurman, creative, skilful and massive.

I would expect 5/6 coming in personally. The club is just keeping its cards close to their chest.

I think we'll only get more than four if Chilwell leaves, and even then I would be surprised to see them sign six players.

A striker, a winger, a centre-back and a cover attacking midfielder will do. Offload Gray, Amartey and James, send Bennett back, let Mendy go, and keep one of Knight or Dewsbury-Hall.

The club only went for four players last summer and then a 5th when Maguire left. In the end, they didn't get the CB replacement so settled with keeping Benkovic.

Given the training ground, potential to miss out on CL, the COVID situation including rebate and lack of matchday revenue, I don't think there is much appetite for big spending. Unless they were to do lots of loans with obligations to buy next summer to avoid short term cash issues?

Considering Rodgers has been on record multiple times as not resorting to Target Man tactics, I think the only striking partnership is likely to be one like the one we have right now.

Not after the target man style, someone off ulloa/slimani height be bigger threat from the endless crosses we chuck in. With vardys pace then we can play the same way!

He's looked very good this season, last season may have been the time to get him though, think you may have missed the boat now.

I think nacho has looked stand out recently. Since he's been playing better, he's been able to keep the ball and offload it well, at first I thought he was fluking it but I feel like he's actually a lot more nimble on the ball then I thought lol. I think nacho can score a decent amount over the course of a season given a decent run. We are definitely crying out for a real quality winger though. Mahrez style if possible. Looking back at Vardy's 100 goals, so many involved a great set up from Mahrez.

So is Chelsea basically planning on signing everyone?
