American owner.

His eyes are on a Super League without relegation, not some annoying, little Champions League that he could possibly miss out on.

Although I have no qualms that is the dream, realistically, that’s not going to happen in the next 5 years or so. In the meantime, Chelsea are walking a very precious tightrope. It’s potentially a disaster waiting to happpen.

Chelsea also sells a lot of players. Of course, if they don't make CL this year, I expect they will have to have a fire sale this summer.

Agree, but every other club will be aware it’s a fire sale. I’ve just read that Mount has rejected Chelsea’s contract offer. I reckon it could swiftly turn into Leeds/Risdale situation.

Wow, this is so surprising! I never thought any dodgy dealings were going on...

Pep will be the first out the door if anything comes of this (doubtful), claiming he knew nothing and refusing to take questions.

He has always had this annoying chip on his shoulder about his club being challenged on this, and so it will be great to see him squirm!

However, knowing the murky world of football, I suspect there will be some pay-off/back handers and they will merely get a fine about 3 years later after Man City have dragged this through courts and appeals to exhaust the Premier League.

How about when we went into administration and also when we climbed out of the Championship? :P

We didn't over spend in either of those two seasons. One was caused by the collapse of ITV Digital and an ex-player (plus agent), the other was investigated and it was found to be differing interpretation of the rules resulting in a token 'fine'.

As much as I agree with this sentiment, you start going down that road and there is a long way to travel. With a possibly justifiable stop at our own ground, too.

As other people have said, the whole thing is in all likelihood rotten from top to bottom and any response needs to reflect that.

If the road is as you say (and l agree) a long one then lets start along it with a large broom, whats right should not be determined by factional interest and for the future of our broken game ALL the cheaters whatever their shirt colour should be called out.

Pundits like Shearer should be called out as the apologists for mass murderers they clearly are - any trophies his beloved team "win" (like Man city and others) should be filled not with Moet but blood.

This game was once for the common working class man but has been slowly appropriated by (usually) foreign billionaires with (usually) flexible moral values.

The change has been insidious, until we now pay a price to watch a match not live but on TV which many of us would have said was utterly inconceivable not too many years back.

Maybe the standard is higher now but it's all relative, personally l attended matches for a reasonable price before it was sold to the highest bidders and was entertained, some poor matches some great- just as today.

But the trajectory now is  race to the bottom of a very dirty, oily barrel and needs to stop if more people are not to desert what daily feels further away from fair competition and more akin to corrupt manipulated business and go to watch Hinckley town or Nomads instead.

(No disrespect intended).

Personally l hope this can of worms is opened and the cheats are barred from ownership.

Blind eyes need to be opened fast.

a) we went into administration because of the financial black hole caused by ITV Digital’s collapse and the cost of building our new stadium. (Side note: Man City were given their stadium for free around the same time)

b) we didn’t break any rules at the time.

Yep, with no website and no telephone number!

Not scammy at all right?

Corruption and cheating has to be called out whoever is it is because now it's not just millionaires and billionaires doing it, it's states and countries- and their wealth and power can and does subvert any organisation or court in any country.

If they can get away with murder then controlling the premier league is childs play.

The Premier league brought this upon themselves by selling the soul of English football to the highest bidders.

We were a PL side in 2018 and the EFL wouldn’t get anything until we got relegated unless an ‘agreement’ was reached.

We received a large payment from a shell company based in Sheffield - it was dodgy

Just as well the EFL don't agree with you then.

My point was that they didn’t  but they agreed to state that it was a misinterpretation in order to conclude the matter and get their money in 2018.  If they hadn’t then they would likely still be waiting now ……

So, you're saying the EFL are dodgy then?

Although this feels like the whole thing may finally have legs, I can't help but think it might end up playing out like Saracens in Rugby Union.

They won everything for a lot of years by blatantly cooking the books.

Premiership rugby actually had the balls to investigate them, prove them guilty and punish them with relegation.

As severe as that sounded, they kept half their players, loaned the other half on season-long loans, cantered to promotion and were back challenging for the title before anybody really even realised they were gone.

It would be great to see a punishment like that for Man City, but whatever punishment is handed down, it would hardly affect them for more than a year or two anyway.

Yep, which is why in the Saracens case other clubs - notably Exeter were outraged that they were not awarded the titles in (as l remember) two premiership finals or the loss of income which resulted from Saracens cheating.

Likewise any fair penalty against - in this case - Man city should result in relegation and recompense.

Titles given to 2nd placed teams (or the highest non cheat), losing finalists, and monies earned from participation in competitions given to the teams they effectively defrauded.

There should also be a transfer embargo for 5 years, and like the russian mafia boss the owners should be told to sell or have he club ejected rom the EPL.

But as with Saracens none of this will happen and unlike Saracens they wont be relegated.
