Qualification for Champions' League & Europa League

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know what happens if Wolves or Man Utd win the Europa league and finish outside the top 4? Would that mean 4th place would be a Europa league spot or would it be 5 teams from England that get CL?

Just read the OP, so 5 teams can qualify for CL

Would, be five teams

IF the winners of the CL and Europa league are from outside the top four then fourth place would miss out

one country can only have five teams max and a team cannot qualify outside top four unless it wins Europa or CL  (unless a Man City situation without CAS pay off)

Yep, as per your edit, England would have 5 clubs in the CL under that scenario.

But we'd only have 2 in the Europa League (no more than 7 European qualifiers in total seems to be a fixed rule): presumably next highest in PL & FAC winners (or 2 qualifiers via PL if FAC winner qualifies for CL).

The only circumstances in which 4th place could become a Europa League spot would be in the highly unlikely event that, as well as Wolves/Man Utd winning EL and finishing outside top 4, Chelsea win this year's CL and also finish outside top 4.

As Chelsea lost their home leg 0-3 v. Bayern, that ain't gonna happen.

It would just be our luck that we'd finish fourth and somehow Chelsea overturn the deficit and win the CL 😂

So crux is finish fourth or above and we are in the champions league. Just need to equal or better United's results from here on.

Nothing to stop people traveling even if they can't go to the ground. Plenty did that last time.

There may be a ban  on  travel from places with high CV19 numbers. Last time there was no CV19.

Difficult to see us bettering United’s results from here on . I think we have lost the CL☹️

We potentially only need 4 points from here.

If we beat Spurs and draw with Sheff Utd and Chelsea lose to Liverpool and Wolves we’re in.

Surely that's some sort of European qualification done now?

You would hope so , but all 3 if our games are against potential rivals chasing the same dream.  And worse then that while we have list our way they are all looking good.  You can't over play how massive sheff united tomorrow is.

I think if we can bank 5th , then we will have a better chance against spuds and man united.

Win tomorrow pretty much means we will finish 5th at least doesn’t it?

A win tomorrow and we’re certain of 5th. It would also mean at the very least we’d go into the last game of the season with CL football in our hands.

Yep ,  it's the biggest game since when we won it. Then potentially we have man united game that could then upgrade us to the champions League

No pressure then

The fixtures sort of go against us.

We need Spurs and Sheff Utd to keep up the pressure on Wolves so they have something to play for on the final day, but we play Spurs and Sheff Utd!

Which is why it was important wolves didn’t win this evening. ....

Tomorrow is massive for us, win and we are guaranteed 5th and automatic Europa League Group qualification, and still with a chance of Champions League going into the Man Utd game, lose or even draw, and there is a very real chance we may finish 8th and miss out on europe altogether.

I've never thought of it like thay actually but if we beat united on the final day, then we actually only have to win 1 of the games against Sheff Utd and Spurs, barring a huge reversal in goal difference, to guarantee CL.

What a crazy season and how can we still afford to lose a game and still have CL football in our own hands.

Just occurred to me that we could have done with yanited winning on Monday so they may not have needed a result at our place - with chelsea likely to be 1 or 2 points behind them heading into the final game they will have to go for a win against us

If ourselves and Man Utd both win our next two and Chelsea lose to Liverpool then we'll both go into the final match 2 points ahead of Chelsea with a far superior goal difference, meaning a point will see us both qualify.
