Anyone had any positive stories of packing up smoking for good? I have been on and off for about 10 years, usually when I have a drink or face some form of stress, can go weeks without it too. I've contacted NHS quit ready and they are sending some stuff out to help me, has anyone used their service. If I am in a period of smoking I will only have 5-7 a day. It's just an awful habit that I want rid of for good rather than continually relapsing. I hate the thought of vaping so that's out the question. Its about £12 a pack these days too.

Cheers

What do you hate about vaping?

If you're struggling to quit then I'm guessing none of the traditional approaches have worked for you. Maybe a decent high strength juice with a mouth-to-lung set up would tick the boxes to keep you smoke-free? It'd be far cheaper and be "at least 95% safer than smoking" [Public Health England].

I quit cold turkey every time, taking up vaping kept me fag free since 2012.

I used to smoke 20 a day for about 15 years until i gave up 5 years ago. I did it through vaping nothing else worked for me. I got myself a really good vape not one of the cheap ones. Very difficult at first and for about 3 months i was having the occasional ciggie but i kept at it and quit for good. I hardly vape anymore just time to time

When it came to quitting I tried vaping and that stuff is absolute filth. I’d much rather smoke a cigarette. Cold Turkey is the only way I’ve ever successfully gave up smoking

You’ve got to hate them to stay off them. Have a craving action plan which will be different for everyone.

every time I needed a cigarette I have a plan of what I’d need to do before I could have a cigarette.

step 1. Timer for 5 minutes and nip for a walk.

step 2. Have a sweet/mint.

If craving still there:

step 3. Use a replacement treatment I.e nicotine lozenges.

step 4. Timer for 5 again.
if craving not gone

step 5. Smell an ashtray.

step 6. Lick the ashtray

step 7. Have a cigarette.

I never made it to step 7.

I’m not convinced that ticking a box saying “I can afford this” is the most comprehensive credit checking method mobile phone shops could use.

Used to be exactly that for self cert mortgages!

Aah. I often wonder how that all worked out…

It worked out alright for me, I'd have never have a mortgage without one. Never behind on my payments. I'm sure there are others who filed though.

if you want to try vaping, you cant just buy an over the counter vape and juice because those are terrible quality, and made by tobacco companies so they contain way too much nicotine as well. you need to fork over around £100 for a proper vape, with a tank, some replacement coils, and some juice you might like, i cant stand fruity liquids, way too sweet for me but the cake and desert stuff is much nicer for me, if you know someone who vapes try theirs and ask them for advice, or you can DM me and ill try to help you choose a kit thats right for you. theres also 2 types of tank, direct lung and mouth to lung. MTL simulates smoking a cigarette, where as direct lung you smoke more like a bong.

Oh I completely agree.

it worked out ridiculously well for me, too.

But it was a bit bonkers.

I'd argue this. A mod simply provides the voltage to the coil - so its cost is irrelevant. Decent MTL tanks can be had with a mod for far less than that.

The killer is the budget juice, which tends to be PG heavy, that tastes bad. That, or the uncontrolled supersweet shortfills from abroad and shops pushing DTL devices which are wholly unsuitable for most quitters.

A very decent 18-20 mg/ml MTL juice, a £30 atty, a £20 mod - you're up and running for less than £60.

Or, Leicester Stop Smoking Service will provide a free kit and discount vouchers to quitters making an appointment.

The stop smoking team can be contacted by email or by calling 0116 454 4000.

Northamptonshire offers the same support/free stuff

That said, I reckon the best way forward for a smoker is to find a mate who MTLs and try a load of their kit/juice.

Time was when you could do that in shops but it doesn't seem to happen anymore.

I think the hardest hurdle is the drinking aspect, it's the one I continually relapse on. There's something about a pint and a cig that'll never be topped.

This is bang on. I don’t smoke anymore as such, but as soon as I’m sat with a pint I am absolutely having a cigarette

I've just counted and we have 31 cookbooks in our kitchen, 31!! Let's say there's 50 recipes in each one and that's a conservative estimate. That's 1,550 potential meals. I think we've had maybe 10-15 different dishes over several years and about 7 regulars that we actually liked and were relatively easy to find ingredients for and fairly straightforward to prep and cook.. I've yet to work out the total cost of 31 cookbooks. I bet we could've eaten at Claridge's on several occasions for the same cost.

What is the deal with the access road from LFE to the M1 service station? Seems like everyone uses it to get onto the motorway

I never thought I'd see the day where England women v USA has sold out Wembley before the mens game v Germany.

Guess its two different 'products' (boke).

Womens football is all about a family friendly atmosphere and this is against decent opposition and probably their 2 first teams. Even if not, the fans wont care as long as they get to see some of the winning euros players.

Mens football relies on the match meaning to get the fans up for it, particularly friendlies. Most suspect it will be a flat, experimental opportunity.

I'll always prefer a mens game for that type of atmosphere but its great for the womens game and a unique selling point for people who want to bring their kids to match but dont want to deal with swearing, etc.

The country really needs a good day or two of proper hard rain (albeit any flooding risks in certain areas)..

I think we need slow steady rain over a good period of time rather than those storm like downpours that run off and cause flooding. Either way not much in the forecast.
