Saw this come up in the Gen News thread which I can't post in, so @Trav Le Bleu @Narborough Road Fox @davieG the Nail Bars in Leicester are trading legitimately but are originally put in place as a front for Vietnamese money laundering - they run the large majority of the cannabis trade, both in farming and selling for Leicester.  Just wanted to clear that up (can't blame the Turks/Albanians/Romanians for everything). The Heroin trade in Leicester is largely run by a well know Afghan syndicate with Turkish input. Albanians and Slovaks largely run the sex trade, Romanians do mainly illegal imports and sale of vape/tobacco etc. Indian Mafia have a big hold on certain parts of the city, for obvious reasons though.

 my post isn't inflammatory - just thought it would be helpful if people knew how organised crime was divvied up in our beautiful city 

 

Oh, and to add a disclaimer - the majority of crime in Leicester, like the rest of the UK, is committed by white uk nationals. So this isn't an anti-immigration post - anyone that knows me on this forum knows I;m a solid leftie and I was actually banned from Gen News for my left wing views.

Maybe I'm extremely naive but I have a hard time imagining every single vape shop, every single Turkish barber and every single nail salon is an illegal business. 

 

I don't doubt that some are but I also can't help but feel the extent to how many are largely gets exaggerated for fairly typical anti-migrant scaremongering and dog whistling.

Oh sure, no way on earth im saying they all are, im just saying in terms of how certain crime groups operate, these are their general go to in terms of the ones that are illegal. Cash in hand pop up business like these are always going to be the ideal route to Launder money and can also be hidden in plain site by blending in with the vast majority of similar law abiding shops.

 

However, I do know that a significant proportion  of the nail bars in Leicester City centre are linked with Organised Crime and one particular group. Can't speak for anything in the rest of the county.

Yes, I paid their equivalent of NI contributions for the universal system, and when I needed a diagnostic check of some kind the excess would be somewhere between £80 and £250, but when I did I would have the test, the result and the prognosis within a few hours of each other, and the standard of facilities over there was A1.

 

Edit: and prescriptions were also same day, and cost about £10 a pop, same as over here.

However, that could potentially fund tens of thousands more police officers or teachers, or be used to half bus fares across the country for example.

Agreed. I think the days of it being some kind of dangerous gateway drug are long behind us. Perceptions of people who use it, and availability in medicinal forms have changed how people see it's use.

I have and I have no problem with it at all. I currently live next door a woman who has upto six dogs in the house at certain points during the day. That's worse thab living next door to stoners.

A lot of culture war warriors like to make London out to be a crime-ridden cesspit that has fallen from such great heights. It's simply not true. London is actually great. Of course there is crime, but it's no worse than most major cities. In fact, the crime statistics are generally better than many comparable cities. 

 

If anything, London is too good. I personally think it would be far more effective to point out the disproportionate investment that London has received compared to the rest of the country, particularly when it comes to to transport infrastructure, and move the conversation to how the rest of the country can be levelled up.

I don’t care he’s smoking it, it’s just the smell, why can’t they brew it to smell like coffee or freshly baked bread or better still like a Gwyneth Paltrow candle then I wouldn’t mind so much 😝
