To be fair to Chilwell, he gets a lot of unfair criticism over this. In his early career with us he had a terrible time away at Milwall in the Cup where they bullied him both physically and mentally, and in the Puel days, teams used to target him with the high diagonal to beat him in the air. But in his last season with us, his aerial clearances were only bettered by Ndidi and he dramatically improved this aspect of his game.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not his biggest fan and think 50m was outstanding business by us. I'd rather have JJ, Castagne or the current version of Thomas ahead of him. But Chilwell has shown he's a very good player, Chelsea's recent dip has coincided with him getting injured and it looks like they will sign Lucas Digne of Everton to cover for his long term injury.

So is that a yes or a no? 🤔😉

He’s been immense for us recently after a understandably nervous start to the season. I’ve not seen many handle Salah as effectively as he did tonight and still try and play positively and forwards when he could. He can pass the ball too.

I could be a politician with my inability to answer a question lol

Chilwell was not physically strong, but how (injury aside he is), and is physically stronger than Thomas is. He was also stronger IMO than Thomas at the same age. But Thomas will be the overall better player in terms of technical ability and defending. It depends what sort of team we want to be in terms of how to get the best out of him. Ricardo and JJ are better to be the lop-sided / overlapping fullback, Thomas is more your all round solid but good player.

The player he most reminds me of in a very good way for us is Christian Fuchs, who is probably the best LB we've had in many years at his peak.

Anyway in short Thomas > Chilwell.

Was getting hammered a few months ago by some as not good enough. Shows what a run of games does.

yes I’m his uncle but he was ****ing class tonight and underrated

Love how your lad stands up to be counted every time. Chelsea at Wembley in the FA cup final at 19 to pocketing arguably the best player in the world. Just gets on with it.

Battles like any of us would.

You should be so proud.

As a team, we've been poor of late.

I for one have always stood by Luke. There are senior players and management more responsible for our problems.

Luke has been a shining star in all the dark moments recently.

His performances have been incredible and you can see him growing. To keep the worlds best player quiet tonight...wow.

I actually think our best full backs are now Luke And Justin.

Put Fofana in that back four as well...that's exciting. For a defence!

Luke can get forward and offer that part to the team if needed, but his bread and butter is defending and he did that exceptionally tonight.

You and the rest of your family should be proud.

A star in the making.

The main reason that Bertrand seemed a good signing (or so I thought) was that it would take some pressure off young Luke covering for injuries.

Now he’s making a case to keep his place even if all our full backs ever get fit. Having him and Justin as options on the left and Ricardo and Castagne as options on the right would be seriously strong.

He’s getting better and better and long may it continue

Dealt with two of the most potent attackers in the PL in TAA and Salah, like few players have been able to. The confidence this performance will give him will be immense. He's going to get better and better.

The guy is a fvcking hero.

I can't remember which member on here is his uncle, but you should be so God damn proud.

That means the same member is also Mo Salah’s grandfather after tonight’s game.
