Amartey not as good as evans, soyuncu or fofana but not many are!

The best thing today was rodgers clearly kicked them up the arse at half time and the players responded.

Was Amartey really that bad?

I think he was lucky today that Brendan kept his faith in him and kept him on. Don’t forget btw that many on the match thread were all for subbing him at half time.

After that first half, if Amartey would have been subbed off at ht it would have killed his confidence still further.
Rogers did the right thing

First half, yes.

Should have cleared properly for their corner. Wasn't strong enough defending it. Don't think he coped well with the conditions and the pitch as it bounced off him a couple of times.

Second half much better. Seemed to settle down and be a bit calmer and less risky. Did the basics better.

A thousand times this-the one thing I have not been convinced he could do...

I only saw the first half (as I was in transit) and a little bit of the second (up to the PK score), and frankly he sucked.

How many games has Amartey played in the last couple of seasons? How many has he played for us in his career at centre back? How many games has he played with Soyuncu? (These are rhetorical questions)

Evans and Soyuncu are two of the best CBs in the league. Fofana is a rare talent - so Daniel has a real job to prove he can compete amongst that sort of talent. He needs games when the opportunity arises and we need to be patient, but ultimately he will need to prove he has a position in our squad.

He did against Man City, that’s for sure

As Stan said, it was a crap first half for him and he was better in the second. Nonetheless, good to have in the squad as a 4th or even 5th choice CB and a utility player

No, just an easy target. A little shakey on a couple of occasions first half, better second. You can't reasonably expect any player coming back from a long lay off with little or no football under their belts to give a 8 out of 10 performance. It's precisely why it was a good move by Rodgers to play player's like Armarty in a game like this so they can be more up to speed if required in the Premiership or Europe due to possible injury.

But if he did not "give an 8 out of 10 performance" and people say that, then it's not a case of being "just an easy target".

Most understand Amartey's situation, but match ratings rates players (subjectively of course) on performances in each particular game, not the why.

The whole team were suffering from frost bites during the first half, including Amartey, whose passes were often short and running with no energy. He was much better second half.

Yes, I think that there's a lot of truth in what you've said in fairness. I think I was still a bit prickly about some of the comments slagging him off during the game in the match thread yet there were other more 'fashionable' players making mistakes in the first half or playing poorly yet not a mention. I felt that whilst it is easy sometimes for certain people to point out Armartys failures, they wouldn't like to be seen openly disrespecting certain others. There were, as you suggest, Armarty and certain others who haven't through injury seen a lot of football but some of the comments didn't seem to give them much leeway. They were bound to be a bit rusty and hesitant perhaps after what they'd been through including issues of  confidence but I felt some of the comments about Armarty were over the top imo.

Fair enough, but one of life's seminal lessons is ignore most of the comments made during a game - especially when we're losing! lol

🤣 suppose so, perhaps I wouldn't want to revisit some of my own!
