It is stupid that they consider it a major trophy. The major ones are the FA Cup, PL, CL, and League Cup. You can’t call a trophy major when you have a higher level competition in place (Champions League), it would be like calling league two, one and the championship major trophies. 3
Popular Post Koke Posted 22 June 2023 Popular Post Posted 22 June 2023 Europa League is definitely a major trophy, even of the CL is the higher level. 11

I wouldn’t say so, because you are unable to compete if you qualify for the CL which means you are unable to play in the EL, unless you fail and finish third in the CL. It’s a lesser competition to an already major one

I tend to agree with @foxes_rule1978. If the Premier League is a major trophy then so is the Championship and leagues 1 & 2. Btw, West Ham won the Europa Conference League (3rd tier).

Absolutely, any trophy that you win and can’t defend the following season because you have stepped up isn’t a major trophy. 3

bovril Posted 22 June 2023 Posted 22 June 2023 Interesting debate. In the past, the UEFA Cup and CWC were definitely major trophies. But the whole relegation / promotion to another competition thing makes them less so now.

Might just be me but if you don't consider Europa a major trophy then what does that make the League Cup? It's very much in the FA Cup's shadow
Danizen Posted 22 June 2023 Posted 22 June 2023 Every trophy we've won bar League 1 has been major to us
Popular Post RoboFox Posted 22 June 2023 Popular Post Posted 22 June 2023 If we hadn't flopped out with a whimper to Roma and gone on to win the ECL then the vast majority of us would consider it a major trophy. 14

Europe league doesn’t have all top clubs in the competition each year, there are European tiers, this is a tier 2 competition Edited 22 June 2023 by foxes_rule1978

Leeds maybe second, always surprises me to see them only just ahead of us. 1

mozartfox Posted 22 June 2023 Posted 22 June 2023 Does the Spuds number include their Audi Cup Triumph ? -given this Kane’s solitary winners gong.
Criggers Posted 22 June 2023 Posted 22 June 2023 Everton have won at least 6 stay up on the last day trophies. 1

Which means the only major trophy is Champions league. FA Cup and League Cup ultimately lead to one of the feeder European competitions. So they're essentially less than another Trophy So I guess it goes Champions league Europe League FA Cup Conference League League Cup Audi Cup Club world cup Papa Johns Trophy Aldi Cup Charity shield.

Major Trophies: League Cup - All Compete FA Cup - All Compete Champions League - Tier 1 Premier League - Tier 1 All the top teams can compete in each competition yearly - So if you win All, you win All possible major trophies. You can’t win the EL, ECL and CL in the same season. Minor Trophies: Europa League - Tier 2 Europa Conference League - Tier 3 Championship - Tier 2 League One - Tier 3 League Two - Tier 4 You can’t compete in the Europa League and Champions League at the same time. But you can compete in the four major trophies I have mentioned, simultaneously.

Not that they are the same grading - tier 2 in Europe is higher than tier 2 domestically. I could have split them better but I thought people would understand because that is obvious. I minor European trophy is going to hold more weight than a minor domestic trophy Edited 22 June 2023 by foxes_rule1978 1
Ted Maul Posted 22 June 2023 Posted 22 June 2023 Any competition which requires qualification (not invitation) and entry from top tier clubs can be classed as a major trophy. 1
