It is stupid that they consider it a major trophy. The major ones are the FA Cup, PL, CL, and League Cup. You can’t call a trophy major when you have a higher level competition in place (Champions League), it would be like calling league two, one and the championship major trophies.

Europa League is definitely a major trophy, even of the CL is the higher level.

I wouldn’t say so, because you are unable to compete if you qualify for the CL which means you are unable to play in the EL, unless you fail and finish third in the CL. It’s a lesser competition to an already major one

What's the threshold for 'Major'? I tend to agree with @foxes_rule1978. If the Premier League is a major trophy then so is the Championship and leagues 1 & 2.

 

Btw, West Ham won the Europa Conference League (3rd tier).

Absolutely, any trophy that you win and can’t defend the following season because you have stepped up isn’t a major trophy.

Interesting debate. In the past, the UEFA Cup and CWC were definitely major trophies. But the whole relegation / promotion to another competition thing makes them less so now.

Might just be me but if you don't consider Europa a major trophy then what does that make the League Cup? It's very much in the FA Cup's shadow

If we hadn't flopped out with a whimper to Roma and gone on to win the ECL then the vast majority of us would consider it a major trophy.

The league cup is a trophy you can defend every year, there isn’t a tier, every league club plays in it including the top teams. Europe league doesn’t have all top clubs in the competition each year, there are European tiers, this is a tier 2 competition

Not that they are the same grading - tier 2 in Europe is higher than tier 2 domestically. I could have split them better but I thought people would understand because that is obvious. I minor European trophy is going to hold more weight than a minor domestic trophy

Any competition which requires qualification (not invitation) and entry from top tier clubs can be classed as a major trophy.
