The punishment should be the forfiet of one year of CL football, and they can take it this year or next, as the individual clubs see fit.

Any clubs that pull out this year should be replaced by the next highest place side in the qualification to this season's competition.

No point punishing them as only the coaches, players and fans will suffer, who all had nothing to do with this.

BUT we have to use this as an opportunity for huge reforms in the game as a whole. Take the power away from the owners, change ownership rules and give these greedy gits a real wake up call. They are not bigger than the fans.

The temptation by UEFA and the Premier League will probably be to forget it all, but I hope everyone continues to push them until they make these much needed changes.

Leave this season to finish out normally.  Next season start them all on -23 points, one point for each year they signed up to this garbage and let's watch an exciting season play out.

To my mind theses" 6 big clubs" should be rewarded for trying to save football.

let them reward the championship with there presence next season. No need for playoffs promote top six.

this was a massive we are bigger better and superior to everyone else complex. they were self indulgent and completely money orientated.

points or a fine are insignificant. i know people will say the premier league needs them but they did not quit the premier league because that is the bread and butter.

they were saying to the league and the broadcasters we will play weekends for you so move your schedules to accommodate us.

Clubs need punishing for having the audacity to attempt something like this behind everyone's back. That could be a ban in Europe/transfer market and it would act as a deterrent in future that this sort of thing doesn't happen without the approval of fans, governing boards, players, coaches, etc..

Financial punishment only. The fans, players and managers had **** all to do with this .. screw the owners and hit them where it hurts.

Fine them, and give the money to local charities that really need the money to enhance their profile.

money is nothing to these owners.

yes the fans and parts of the club were not involved, but if it had happened the fans and club would have been decimated.

Relegation would galvanise these clubs into a siege mentality which at least would dilute the betrayal and bitterness

Money is everything to them. It's the only thing they care about.

They don't care at all about the actual clubs or their on field success.

Hitting them financially and reducing their power/control is the only worthwhile punishment

Fine them 50m each, redistribute that down the football pyramid. You could save some clubs from going bust very quickly.

Take their merit money and their TV money and give it to the lower and non-leagues.

This shitty project was supposedly to help the game- prove it.

The problem with punishments is that no one in these clubs wanted it apart from the owners who kept them completely in the dark. A season ban from Europe? Effects the players fans, same with points deduction/ relegation. Huge fines maybe if it’s not passed onto supporters. Maybe sanctions against the clubs restricting the power the the owners in the league, remove their power to vote on the running of the game for ten years.

The government, fa and premier league, fans groups need to all come together and work a system that ensures this can’t happen again, weather that enforces these clubs to give a 51% percent share in certain decision making at these clubs, if that’s even possible. Or some other sanction.

A system needs to be put in place to ensure this can’t happen again.

As for the supporters of these clubs, they need to do all they can now to force these owners out of their clubs, I should imagine arsenal and man u would be delighted to get them out, sanctions put against these clubs could help them achieve this.

Finally, probably a bit harsh on the supporters of said clubs but this should never be forgotten, these clubs need to feel the heat from this for a long while. Today is the day that the fans shown that they had the real power, today needs to be the day when the tide turns towards a fairer system of football. The next target should be eufa.

yes hitting there power is good  but fines are a drop in the ocean to the owners.

owning a championship club has way least prestige than a premier league club. 3 of those teams will have at least 2 years at that level

Force them all to hire Ed Woodward to conduct their transfer negotiations for the next 10 years.

only let them sign league 1 and 2 players for 10 years

European ban for at least a year

Points deductions for next season to begin

Any fine should be money redistributed to the Football League and National League

This is akin to them breaking into house with a weapon, getting caught and then climbing out of the house with their defence being ‘I didn’t steal anything’

I doubt they will be punished. It’s not really a surprise Chelsea and Man City shat the bed when they realised they might not get the CL prize money.

There won’t be a punishment. To stop this happening again they’ll take the view that these clubs need appeasing rather than ostracising. Any punishment would have to be water-tight legally and, as we saw with Man City, this lot can afford the biggest and best legal teams to get the outcome they want.

We’ll have the resignations, some token gestures and it’ll all die down for another 5-10 years before the next big idea comes with the lessons learned from this attempt on how not to fail.

We punish clubs with points deductions for financial irregularities that have nothing to do with the fans.

We batter small clubs at their lowest point yet now it’s too harsh to dock points from the six richest clubs in the country after their second attempted coup on football?

True, but I don’t agree with that either.

I wouldn’t be particularly bothered if they were deducted as the whole process has been disgusting but it’s clear this was done away from the clubs with very few people knowing about it within the clubs. It’s the owners that the focus needs to be on. Deduct them 20 points (assuming they don’t appeal it) Everyone feels they’ve got their revenge and they’ve been suitably punished and the owners are still sitting there plotting. We need to go for the owners, full on, rid the game of them, we need fans of those clubs on side, players even. And once they’re gone, new stricter rrules and checks should be in place and serious penalties drawn up and put in place if certain rules are broken. The six clubs involved should have no say in any new constitution.
