Fines mean nothing. Fine them and it's the green light for them to try again later down the road.

Real, true supporters are still going to follow their team if they get relegated/deducted points and all that jazz.

You've got to the throw the book at them and hit them hard on all fronts. A fine means **** all.

Inward player transfer ban for two years to stop them

hoarding talent. If players leave they will have to promote their youngsters.

Fine them big for bringing the game into disrepute, pump the money back into grass roots and give them a transfer ban from now for a year atleast.

I don't agree with punishing the players at the clubs who have had no say on this and many have spoken out against it so deducting what they've worked for would be unfair imo.

I'd also like to see some more protests from fans that directly effect these owners pockets in some way, but not sure how that could be done.

The BBC live feed "coincidentally" has these statements one after another.

UEFA - But they are back in the fold now and I know they have a lot to offer not just to our competitions but to the whole of the European game.  The important thing now is that we move on, rebuild the unity that the game enjoyed before this and move forward together.

ESL - The European Super League is convinced that the current status quo of European football needs to change. We are proposing a new European competition because the existing system does not work. Our proposal is aimed at allowing the sport to evolve while generating resources and stability for the full football pyramid, including helping to overcome the financial difficulties experienced by the entire football community as a result of the pandemic. It would also provide materially enhanced solidarity payments to all football stakeholders. Despite the announced departure of the English clubs, forced to take such decisions due to the pressure put on them, we are convinced our proposal is fully aligned with European law and regulations as was demonstrated today by a court decision to protect the Super League from third party actions.

UEFA "Everything is fine".  ESL "We still want out".  Extraordinary head in the sand there.

There HAS to be a punishment. And a strong one. The other 14 won’t stand for nothing being done.

I agree.

i would love to see them thrown out of the league, but that brings huge problems about how to finish the season fairly. It would be an aberration to give W Ham the title because they had fared badly in their games against the "big six".

Fines are obviously pointless.

My preference would be to deduct points - again i can't decide whether doing it for this season would be a good idea because it's applying a retrospective effect which makes a nonsense of everything that's already happened in the league.

What I definitely favour is punitive action for next season including (a) a massive points deduction (let's see them sufferer the ignominy of avoiding relegation as their first priority) and (b) a ban on transfer incomings for 2 seasons.  If these 2 actions weren't applied in tandem then, with the prospect of a large points deduction at the start of next season, these six would simply compensate for it in advance with an even bigger splurge than usual in the transfer market this summer.

Financial punishment only. The fans, players and managers had **** all to do with this .. screw the owners and hit them where it hurts.

Well the poxy fine will not hurt them though will it?

No point fining them as it's a drop in the ocean. Banning from competitions seems unfair on the players who have earned it on the pitch. Relegation seems unfair on the fans.

Only one sensible option.

Make the owners do the Walk of Atonement from Game of Thrones.

If they broke rule L9 here, I don’t see how they can avoid punishment, even if we disregard bringing the league into disrepute. Tuchel admitted yesterday it affected his team and the result.

I think it’s cut and dry, they entered another competition, signing legal contracts to do so and publicly announcing that intention. Of course they didn’t have prior written approval.

I don't think the 'don't punish the fans' argument holds any weight. Most will just be relieved that the ESL proposal has collapsed and won't really care about a points deduction for next season.

They broke it they have to suffer the consequences they should be punished this season as they announced their intentions and signed contracts this season, an immediate 30 points suspension will suffice and ban on European competitions for two seasons

Personally I’m not overly bothered about punishing the greedy six. I’m more bothered about real, tangible, change. We, as supporters, must stay angry about this.

With the changes to the CL now ratified the breakaway clubs still have one foot in the door to ring fencing the competition. This must be the first thing that goes now. They’re  still one step further forward in achieving their goals.

UEFA must be pressured to remove the coefficient qualifying criteria. This was brought in to quash the threat of a breakaway. Now this threat has been largely removed they have the upper hand to move against those who forced them to change the CL. They must take the opportunity to revert back to fair competition or be forced, by fan pressure, to do so.

Premier League Meeting today for the 14 clubs re punishment you would hope we would advocate for a punishment this season.

14 PREMIER LEAGUE CLUBS PLOT PUNISHMENTS FOR BREAKAWAY SIX

There is a difference of opinion among the group of 14 Premier League clubs about whether there should be sanctions against the 'big six', now that they have abandoned their plans for a European Super League, Sky Sports News has been told.

One senior club official has told Sky Sports News that they want to pursue the possibility of punishments, because they feel there is a clear breach of Premier League rules, and a precedent must be set to act as a deterrent to possible future breakaways.

Rule L9 says any member club needs prior written approval by the Premier League Board to enter a new competition, and this official says that rule has “patently been broken” by the rebels signing an agreement to join the Super League.

An executive at another Premier League club has told Sky Sports News that any sanction imposed on the 'big six', such as points deductions or fines would hurt the wrong people - the players, managers and, crucially, the fans of those clubs.

Instead, they advocate the Premier League rules being tightened for the future, but they say the 'big six' should be welcomed back into the Premier League fold quickly, because “there has to be a measure of realism” here, with those six so crucial to the “overall commercial and sporting success” of the league.

There is likely to be another meeting of the 14 Premier League clubs - possibly even later today - to discuss what should happen next.

•Points deductions this season and next.

•A ban from all European competitions for the next year, possibly 2, possibly more.

•A transfer embargo for atleast 2 years.

There needs to be an example made and repercussions need to happen.

I’ve seen people claiming if you do this you’ll be punishing the fans, players and managers of these clubs who had no involvement it in. I’m sorry but fans, players and managers are not involved or to blame for clubs going into administration - they still get points deductions and transfer embargo’s.

There are a few clubs currently under a transfer embargo for a technical error - it’ll be removed by the time the transfer window is back open but that’s besides the point, they treat the ‘small insignificant clubs’ with contempt, let’s see some actions for the so called big clubs.

I fear they’ll get a slap on the wrist, all will be forgiven and let’s bow down to the money they bring into the game.

The fact these clubs in certain corners are being lauded for ‘seeing sense’ sums it up already, as for the Chelsea fans chanting “We saved football” last night. Wow, irony much?

I've said it before but there needs to be a push for the ringleaders (Liverpool and United) to have to change their ownership models (perhaps to 50+1) and legislation that means all other takeovers from now have to do something like that in mind.

They should the six clubs from voting or having a voice on football issues for the next 5 years.

It's more important to stop it happening again than it is to punish them imo.

Come on guys do you think they will be bothered by pathetic fines?

Depends how big the fine is. I'd hot them with a cool £150m fine each.
