Leicester’s Iestyn Hughes shoots a pass to Leshabela’s shoes. Sounds good. Welcome, Iestyn.

Other players whose names start with Ie? Has to be a first.

Ieuan Evans played on wing for Wales (rugby). Does that count?

No. Unfortunately I will have to deduct points.

I’m deducting double points from you lot. Consider yourselves in the Super League sin bin.

Iestyn Hughes to leave Manchester United to sign with Leicester City
April 26, 2021Dan Coombs

Young Manchester United talent Iestyn Hughes has decided to join Leicester City.

Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic reported the news over the weekend, disclosing that Hughes has signed a three-year deal at the club.

The Athletic had reported in February that top flight clubs were looking at Hughes, who was out of contract this summer.

The defender’s mum confirmed the switch on Twitter, saying the family were proud of his next step.

A talent who United may regret losing
Hughes, 18, is a Wales youth international who has featured in under-17 and under-19 squads for his country.

The young defender plays at right-back and has been a regular for United’s under-18 side this season, playing in 14 games.

He went on trial with Leicester in late March and played 90 minutes for their under-23 side against West Ham.

The teenager is a bright talent, and The Athletic reported there was interest from German teams too.

But the right-back position is a very crowded one at United, and there was little immediate opportunity of him breaking through.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is United’s top option, and while Diogo Dalot and Brandon Williams can both play there too, Ethan Laird is hoping to breakthrough as an option soon.

United also signed Marc Jurado from Barcelona last summer, who has been splitting time in the under-18s at the position with Hughes, and earlier this month he made his under-23s debut.

Hughes is joining a good club in Leicester, and has a chance to make United regret letting him go. At the same time, United are well covered at the position.

If he thought the RB position was difficult pathway through to the 1st team at Utd it's possibly even harder here.

Seduced by the Seagrave from the tweet from his Mum.

plus Brendan or Ole - No Contest :P

Perhaps he thinks our RBs are more likely to be tempted away than the Man U ones, they've really only one way to go - downwards so are unlikely to be rushing to leave.

Makes a difference doesn’t it?

Coming to our training ground is now an ‘event’

It has to help firm up the desicions of players when they see what we can offer?

So out of interest, if anyone knows...

Is this like Tavares "allegedly" running down his contract and choosing us over them, or being let go and us choosing to give him a go?

Fyi, had to go back and capitalise the t in the hope is get an answer rather than an English lesson. 😀 (Ps auto correct capitalise english, I don't know or give a shit about that one)

Good point and does make me wonder why United didn't offer him a contract and kept signing other RBs?

Is he any more likely to break through at LCFC than MUFC with our full back options?

Probs.

The whole Tav thing seemed weird. People claimed he didn't want to play in the u23s. Then we saw him play in the u23s multiple times. But like Iestyn he was definitely weighing up his options for first team football.

Iestyn has a year or so to compete with Ricardo, Castange, Justin and Amartey. I'm not sure how stacked United are comparatively.

Don't forget Vontae Daley-Campbell too who it seems Rodgers specifically wanted to sign him and wasn't just an academy addition, he evidently rates him.

Was literally about to say. I love that they try and pretend it's because he's got less competition here when we've got, hands down, better full backs than they do on both sides.
