Unabomber Posted 28 August 2021 Posted 28 August 2021 Chelsea are very sore losers though when anything goes against them

Agreed, penalty, yes, but a red is too harsh as it hits his knee first. Even so I’m sure Klopp will forget all about that later in the season when he talks about all the decisions going against Liverpool with that horrible self-righteous smirk of his. 2
Vacamion Posted 28 August 2021 Posted 28 August 2021 If it hit his knee and a stationary arm, fair enough, but he scooped his arm out to move the ball. Pen.
Tielemans63 Posted 28 August 2021 Posted 28 August 2021 Surely common sense has to prevail though? It's a pen as a goal has been denied but Reece James does not deserve a red, it spoons up off his thigh. 3

SouthStandUpperTier Posted 28 August 2021 Posted 28 August 2021 Maybe they should introduce penalty goals to football for these type of instances and keep it 11 v 11. 1

The Guvnor Posted 28 August 2021 Posted 28 August 2021 A penalty fair enough but a red card seemed a strange decision
Bats8711 Posted 28 August 2021 Posted 28 August 2021 I honestly don't know what the rules of the game state there. But what that should be IMO is exactly that - an awarded goal, and that's that. It's obviously not intentional, but it also probably kept a goal out. So count the goal and keep the player on.
Corky Posted 28 August 2021 Posted 28 August 2021 If it hits another part of the body before the arm I don't think you can call it deliberate. He wasn't punching that off the line. Fortunate penalty and Chelsea now ruing those chances earlier.

Vacamion Posted 28 August 2021 Posted 28 August 2021 When Killer Alonso et al were crowding the ref before the penalty, to delay the taking of it, he should have booked them. Then he should have booked those guys in his face after the penalty. Grow some baws, ref. 3

RowlattsFox Posted 28 August 2021 Posted 28 August 2021 Proper grey area. Should never be sent off for something like that but if the rules says handball on the line is a red I guess he has to do it. 2

I wouldn't be against some experimentation around ideas like that, because sending offs kill games. I think Ayoze's one against West Ham was another example, definite red, but he never meant it. So give West Ham a penalty or something (I know the challenge wasn't in the box, but still) and then keep it 11 vs 11? I'm not supporting either team in this match, but that seems so harsh to send a player off just for trying to defend. VAR did its job and gave the penalty, the double jeopardy seems over the top here. 1

A referee mate has just said the same to me! So in this case, it's the rules that should be questioned not the referee.
RowlattsFox Posted 28 August 2021 Posted 28 August 2021 If that wasn't on the line I don't think they give the penalty.
Sir Shep Posted 28 August 2021 Posted 28 August 2021 Truthfully I can’t stand Liverpool so I can’t really be impartial in this debate, all I will say is cheating scouse favouring ref barstool.
jammie82uk Posted 28 August 2021 Posted 28 August 2021 looking at the replays at half time seems the arm swing is after the ball hits his arm, still don’t understand why the ref has called it on a freeze frame tho
Phenom Posted 28 August 2021 Posted 28 August 2021 It’s a definite penalty but not a red. It wasn’t a Luis Suárez at the WC situation.
