What do you change to try and make us go that one step further? Or do we just go again one year older and wiser for the world cup?

Bring back Eric Dier

Southgate isn't my cup of tea either but we are not Italy, Spain, France etc who have loads of good managers. Graham Potter for England maybe lol

Instead of trying to replicate Italian teams from the days of shithousery and playing it safe, we should try and replicate the Italy of today who seemed to have ditched the old format and replaced it with a form of football that will see them win future tournaments.

Seriously? the first final for 55 years and people are blaming the manager?

Did you watch the game? A decent manager and we win the euros. Our squad was much better!

Which decent manager got us to the final before?

We’ve not had a decent manager in my life time

Sir Bobby and Venables were good managers. As @Izzy said if either were the manager of this team they probably would have won.

Maybe it's too soon, but it seems to me that Southgate was not only far too negative, but also lacked any sense when selecting penalties. I like him as a bloke but, I'm not going to let that cloud my judgement. And that is, we've failed to win our first euros that we could've finally gone all the way with.

The teams fine. It's the manager.

We have great attacking players. But he doesn't now how to use them.

Southgate will continue. There's no way the FA will sack a manager who got to a final.

I felt annoyed with Southgate after the Croatia World Cup Semi-Final because it seemed like a game that we could have won with some proactive tactical tweaks (Croatia had been on top and threatening to score long before they did).

The feelings similar here.

Southgate did well to identify an initial weakness with Italy’s system, which created space and overload opportunities on the flanks.

Yet, we failed to capitalise any further after the early goal and then didn’t react to Italy’s changes until too late.

Probably not. And I don't hate him. I just think it was such a negative approach to the final.

It's as talented and likeable a group of players as England have had in my lifetime I think. A few who wind me up granted but they seem a fairly nice, grounded bunch and loads of them are still very early in their career.

Getting to a final is of course well worthy of celebration but I can't help but feel in ten years or so we'll be wondering whether they might have been able to take that extra step with the guidance of a less cautious, more proactive manager who has a clear idea for how he wants his team to play and whose abilities extend beyond being a good communicator and all round top bloke.

Hopefully we put an actual football manager in charge of the team. Much like Italy have. When it comes down to it, Southgate has shit the bed, completely.

Like all the actual football managers we’ve had in the last 55 years which have got us to zero finals???

I don't hate him. But I wish he was able to use our attacking players rather than walking down the long road to draws and penalties.

Don’t want to be too hard on Southgate, after all he’s done much better than practically anyone expected. But surely it isn’t a good idea to bring players on specifically to take a penalty right at the end when they haven’t had chance to kick a ball. Coming on cold to take a pen as almost the first touch of a ball must be frightening.

Years ago English football realised weren't developing players to right way, made massive changes to youth football, we now produce quality players.

However we don't develop quality English managers, until we address this we aren't going to beat the best.

If you win, you're a genius, if you lose you're a twat. That's life.

Our run in to the final was a weak Ukraine side and Denmark. Yes Hodgson's side messed up in a semi vs Iceland and France went out to Switzerland in this tournament so your opponent doesn't count for everything but Robson and Venables faced quality Germany sides in their semi-finals.

How does a nation go about producing quality managers? It's crazy that a small country like Netherlands have had better top level coaches than England.

Didn’t we beat Germany as well?

It's time I was in bed, In summary, I love you England, I'm so very sorry you/we lost. Anyone who's happy is a w@nker. One day we'll win.
