Pre-Season Thread

Enjoyed the podcast with Glen Driscoll, and to be fair the one with Matt Reeves the week before was also a decent listen.

 

Driscoll says the late return was conscious to give non-internationals an elongated 6-7 weeks off, and there has been a big focus on injury prevention work to hopefully stop a repeat of last season.

 

Tomorrow as expected will be two XIs getting 45 minutes. Vardy name-dropped among those to have set the tempo with outstanding fitness test results which bodes well for him to get back to his best.

 

Would take a stab at tomorrow's 22 being something like this, with a mix of the two lists in each half:

Iversen/Jakupovic

Ricardo/Daley-Campbell

Fofana/Amartey

Söyüncü/Benkovic

Bertrand/Thomas

Ndidi/Mendy

Soumaré/Choudhury

Maddison/KDH

Albrighton/Daka

Barnes/Sowah

Vardy/Iheanacho

 

Ricardo not been seen on the pitch for a while so could need to be a reshuffle there, Pérez/Ward could be involved, likewise Suengchitthawon. Ghezzal probably not risked if he's on the verge of Besiktas.

And perhaps they feel that If the players are away from home all together there is less chance of them picking up a case ….. actually I bet they didn’t think this ……

Listening to the podcast with Glen Driscoll, being togther 24 x 7 is about team building and togtherness, he also said they are staying near to the two London area games

Staying at Pennyhill Park in Surrey I believe, and using the RFU's elite performance centre there for the week.

Somewhat surprised Ben Nelson hasn't been amongst the first team training this pre-season. Spent most of last season with them and we are a CB shy with Evans currently injured.

He was in a few videos but perhaps now he’s stuck with the u23s which is still a big step up for him at his age

He was in a first team training photo on the 16th July

 

From the training gallery on the 20th and the water polo photos on the 23rd, it looks like they have may reduced the group down to the first team and those few youth players who travelled yesterday, most of the other youth players don't appear to be there now

Looking at him it’s hard to believe he’s 17?? Unless transfermarkt is wrong. The mans a unit

I've had a howler there, missed some of this when in Cornwall. With restrictions now lifted, much easier for the players to mix anyway.
