Not seen  this link anywhere else. Interesting this is coming from a pro Arsenal source, who's been pushing the Arsenal have bided for Maddison narrative.

Because they want rid of Lingard and think JM going to Arsenal would facilitate that?

If one drives an electric car, can you still connect a pipe to the exhaust and end it all if we sign Lingard?

He wouldn’t come here - he thinks he has bigger fish to fry :giggle:

“Lingard to Arsenal Here We Go! Player wants move, United happy to sell and Arsenal are literally that poor and desperate.”

Problem solved.

Arsenal seems an odd move:

1. Not in the CL and as far away as we are inn getting there

2. The manager isn’t a top European manger who develops players

3.  Not sure Arsenal will outspend us on wages

They have a big stadium and are in London I can’t see that being that big a pull.

On the flip side he isn’t going to Man City, United or Chelsea any time soon.  Spurs or Arsenal might be the best he can hope for if he wants to sign for a ‘big club’

Because they hate the fact we have become a rival and gatecrashed the big 6,

Anything which may weaken us will be applauded by them even if it is too Arsenal whom they obviously dont feel threatened by.

Big 6 protectionism

I believe Maddison will be sold, towards the last week or so, Arsenal will sell players and raise the funds needed to get Maddison

I doubt we would do business that late if we want reinforcements.

I'm hedging a bet that BR has heard him loud and clear because he hasn't been happy in the left sided inside winger role that he's been played in and I've wanted him to take that no.10 position since he came here. I can only imagine he hasn't been played there as we play 1 up top but that now with potentially 2 up top he can anchor that entire offensive area. That can't be the only reason but at least he's found a new lease of life and genuinely looked happy on the pitch.

I strongly doubt that Maddison has been unhappy about the position he's been playing in, unless you're talking about the few times he's been put out wide. As I see it, he has been playing in the no.10/CAM position in the vast majority of games he's played in over the past two seasons. If you have seen him slightly left of centre, I expect that's because Perez tends to play quite narrow whereas Barnes doesn't. Regardless, whatever you want to label it, he has been the central player of the 3 attacking midfielders in the vast majority of games he's played.

Why would playing 1 up top prevent Maddison from being the no.10?

When he played behind the front 2 when we played 3 at the back last season, he tended to look less effective for whatever reason. It might have just been a coincidence, or due to his injury problems, but he has played his best football for us as a no.10/whatever you want to call it with us playing a back 4 and one striker ahead of him.

I think the reason he's looked better over pre-season is probably his fitness. Let's hope he can put his injury problems behind him this season, because a fully-fit-and-firing Maddison will make a huge difference to our season.

That would be plain and simple madness.  Weaken ourselves with panic replacements?  I would like to think the decision makers within our Club would not do something so dumb.

Sure, because of course the club would take a shotgun and unload it in its foot like that.

Agreed, it's just not the way we operate. All of our past big departures came before the start of the season (and pre-season in some cases.)

There is just no logic in selling Maddison at this point and Saturday showed that he is on the way back to his best, so we'd be weaker all round if we did sell him.

How quickly after the window shuts and they don't sign him, does Arsenal Twitter decide Madders is in fact an "overrated fraud" and that they "never wanted him anyway".

Even with Slab-head going late we had Cags on board and primed to go.

Slab-head went before the start of the season, but your quite correct with the Cags point. I don't see us having a ready made replacement in the squad that fits in with the system we play. None of our midfield options can play as a 10, other than Perez, but lets not go there... :P

You'd expect us to be linked with replacements by now and making moves over the next week if the club thought there's a strong chance of this happening. So far there's no credible links to a replacement CAM

would we even look at a replacement ?

would we use the money to buy a right winger and then we could possible have praet, perez and kdh  that can all play as a 10 and thats if brendan decides to go with a formation that utilises a number 10 as we have favoured the 4-3-3 pre season

The club seem to have clamped down on leaks and do their business under the radar nowadays . They will have a surprise or two in store I’d be pretty confident of that

I reckon we just see if the club making offers is a proper outfit or not and if they are we seriously look at replacements. I can imagine Jon Rudkin or Susan Whelan looking at their phone going off, seeing a North London dialling code and thinking "not bothered picking that one up".
