Ric Flair Posted 4 November 2021 Posted 4 November 2021 Madueke supposedly close to joining Atalanta which is odd as they don't play with wingers. Incidentally I don't think he's had a goal or assist since the transfer window has closed. 1

lcfc sheff Posted 5 November 2021 Posted 5 November 2021 I can’t work out what we’re missing… is it simply form? From game to game it changes, sometimes I don’t feel we have the link from midfield to attack, our centrebacks lack the vision to bring the ball forward or is it the midfield not offering for the ball enough? And fullbacks either can’t attack and end up passing the ball backwards (Bertrand and Thomas) or they can’t cross the ball particularly well (castagne) Then there’s the lack of athleticism, bar Vardy who has pace? From set pieces we lack the physicality to defend them especially coming up against a team like West Ham who I dread to think about with the likes of soucek, Antonio etc. when I think about it there’s a few players I’d want swapping or do we simply not actually play to their strengths? Should we be embracing the lack of physicality like say Man City and is it now the coach’s fault for not getting the best out of them? it feels like we’re close, but something needs to change whether it be signings, formations and tactics.
Jimmy Posted 6 November 2021 Posted 6 November 2021 seeing him come on just now and remembering him being so good at Ajax I'd look for Donny Van der Beek as a Tielemans replacement, if he won't sign a new contract we need to replace him ASAP and frankly sell too, to lose him for nothing would be stupid 2

Lots of back heels well weighted passes, it is hard not to be impressed with what he Van de Beek) puts out on the pitch. You have to be aware as a teammate for the ball coming to you and as a team it seems you need to have a lot of possession for him to be effective. You want him to take a bit more responsibility on the ball but his speed of thought and unselfishness negates this and he is a big asset in a team with movement and attack minded. I would rather someone who can control the game, slow it up, play incisive passes and open teams up off a slow tempo, the "style" of play makes him, any thing off a slow tempo will not make him as effective. If we have to replace Youri, we will have to have the balance of leadership and an ability to open teams up. Not sure if we swapped Youri for Van de Beek we would be better off, unless Soumare can become the strong arm and rock, that we need as a sound foundation in this team.

messerschmitt Posted 6 November 2021 Posted 6 November 2021 I'd be looking at wing-backs that can also play as wingers. @Ric Flairseen anyone overseas who fits the bill?

Ismail Jakobs was one I'm annoyed we didn't go for in the summer, Cornet was another who had unreal stats a few years back when he played wide right but last season moved to a left wing back role and did well, how he's ended up at Burnley is a mystery. Others are Robert Skov, Filip Kostic and a player I really rate Galeno from Braga. 1
