Do you consider Lookman in Perez's position a shoehorn?

Guys... If you really think that Perez and Maddison are NOT going to start this game... You're lying to yourself. Ofvourse they are. 100%.

Dreading this game. Its going to be horrendous to watch. A team who have panic attacks when dressing the half way line vs a team who struggle to break teams down.

I didn't realise we are playing ourselves. I suppose at least we will have a chance.

I can see us start with 3 CBs for this one and we will still concede from a set piece or a cross from a wide position.

Perez will definitely start.

Brendan will make some subs around the 65/70 minute mark.

We will be 1 or 2 down and will start to try and score from around the 75 minute.

I really don't understand what has happened to the team that used to play fast attacking football. We look a pale shadow of a team at the moment.

A win, however we can get it, is absolutely vital right now or we're going to be facing a very long hard season with the relatively easy start we have to the league programme and few points got.

He's the closest to a replacement but he is naturally a left winger. It's the one player I might throw in there instead of Perez. Iheanacho at a push but he is much better as a 10 behind Vardy (or partnering).

We remain the worst team in the premier league for mins per chance created, and 4th bottom for mins per xG.

We cannot create. Nacho and Perez are statistically our top creators this season in the league so far, despite not playing much. They should start IMO, Lookman has also arguably done enough to be in with a shout.

Surely it’s the end of the line for Maddison’s run as a passenger in our side?

Don't wanna see James Maddison anywhere near the starting lineup!

You just know that maddrrs will play he needs to get back to how he was lacking confidence at the mo ,I think transfer rumours about him leaving has had an impact, believe he will go in January, not that I want him to go

That’s what it should be (perhaps there’s an argument for Soumare over Iheanacho) but it’s telling that Maddison, Perez and Soumare played no part vs Millwall so we can probably assume all 3 will be involved and probably start.

Rodgers should be careful because if we lose or draw and start Maddison and Perez then I think there will be boos at full time because of the frustration at picking out of form players. They would be better starting from the bench and / or starting the European game instead.

If Lookman doesn't start after his excellent contribution over the past 2 games I can see his time with us going the same way as Under's last season. If I recall correctly, Under looked really sharp in his early games for us, coming on as sub and setting up goals.  But he still didn't get a chance to start after these cameos and his confidence and form consequently dipped and dipped as he sat on the bench watching poor performance after poor performance from Perez.

Not sure about that. A friend who as at the game said Lookman started off a bit timid yesterday but grew into the game, especially at the start of the second half.

I do agree he should start, but I don't think he will get the hump given he's already been used more than Daka and made a difference to the team in each game he's played. Also unlike Under, Lookman has the physical attributes; whilst we concentrate on his attacking play, he closes opposition players down well and is able to shrug off challenges. He's used to the Premier League and used to high press whilst being at Leipzig. If his purchase price is the rumoured 16m then I find it hard to believe on current form he won't be signed permanently because he's been very impressive and is a versatile member of the squad. Under always looked good in the final third, but he didn't have the best stamina and didn't press in the way Perez and Albrighton do. I don't have those concerns with Lookman.

Regarding the game, when we play Burnley they tend to sit off the ball and let us have it. In games like that, someone who is willing to drive at the opposition and beat their man like Lookman is better suited than the high press / stamina that Perez and Albrighton provide.

On the official site, he's called out in glowing terms:

Davies was particularly pleased to see Lookman mark another impressive appearance for the Foxes with a maiden goal for the Club and he paid tribute to the on-loan winger's application in training.

"He's been outstanding in training, with his attitude, day-to-day around the place," Davies added. "He's been a joy to work with in the first few weeks and his quality has been very high. He impacted the game a lot when he came on at the weekend against Brighton.

"Today, he had to work hard, he had a good battle with the right wing-back in the first half. He stayed at it and, in the end, he gets his goal with a really instinctive finish because he follows in a rebound.

"It's something which is hard to teach a player to do, just to sense that moment to go and finish, so it's a very good day for him."

At the moment I strongly believe this is our best side. You could make an argument for Castagne at either full back slots but the rest picks itself. Although fully preparing myself for Brendan to continually select Perez and Madders...

Kasper

Ricardo

Cags

Evans

Bertrand

Ndidi

Tielemans

Lookman

Kel

Barnes

Vardy

That is our best side, agreed.

The only thing I would say is that against the more physical teams there is an argument to play 433 instead:

                      Kasper

Ricardo   Evans  Soyuncu  Bertrand

        Tielemans   Ndidi   Soumare

Lookman          Vardy       Barnes

So swap Iheanacho for Soumare. Nacho 100% deserves a place in the team based on how he's playing, but you get more midfield control with the 433 setup. Horses for courses as they say!

It's baffling. Look at the Napoli and Brighton games and both times Bertrand had an absolute howler in providing the foil for Barnes to run amok. Veltman on an early booking and then we spend the rest of the 1st half ignoring Barnes and instead trying to find Maddison down the right. Bizarre goings on this season.

Would like to see Maddison play a deeper role like he used to. In recent games it's like he's played even higher up the pitch than someone like Iheanacho would. Get him deeper and affecting the game more.

It's interesting seeing fans have this view point, you aren't the only one who's called for Maddison to play more as a central midfielder than off the striker but I couldn't disagree more if I tried. I cannot remember him ever having a good game when he's done that, it's often when we are struggling or he's struggling that he's ended up dropping deep and he makes matters worse. Look at every game he's ever played in a 3-5-2 for us, he's awful.

His best position when he is fit is finding the space behind Vardy, his spell from December 2020 to Feb 2021 when he got injured was his best since he's been here and so many times he got space around the edge of the area and scored or assisted. Right now though he needs divine intervention, he's not got the aggressiveness to play anywhere. He seems broken.

Personally found his best games came when he and Tielemans played as 8s with Ndidi sitting between them.

Tielemans himself went on to improve when played alongside Ndidi but I think Maddison has regressed when playing so far forward.

It was a joke how far from play Maddison was in the Norwich game. He needs to get better at dropping into the holes and finding space because he's got absolutely no pace whatsoever and is useless when played so far up the pitch because of it.

The positions that Soumare took up in the Brighton game is what i'd like to see from Maddison. Clearly the most advanced of the 3 in midfield but still able to play a role in dictating the game.

That has to be the team. Anything else and I will be writing a VERY passive aggressive tweet at 2pm and I hope Brendan knows that.

I don't why everyone keeps harping on Kelechi needing to start.  All he does is score goals.

Maddison was still playing very high up the pitch, the only change is that Tielemans has dropped deeper as he struggled in 2019/20 and Rodgers got the idea he needed to be deeper to get more control of the game and it worked.

Personally this is what I’d go for.

Understand the calls for Iheanacho instead of Soumaré. But think there’s a risk we’re too open then with 2 attacking wingers and 2 strikers on the pitch. So may be a case of Perez/ Albrighton instead of Lookman, or Soumaré instead of Iheanacho. And then holding one of Iheanacho/ Lookman back to make a difference off the bench.

Saying that I expect neither will start and it will be Maddison and Perez again, until Brendan changes it and brings them both on at the 65minute mark to try and rescue us.

I agree that Lookman has been good.  My concern is over whether Rodgers will be brave enough to pick him.
