I don’t think you’ve interpreted that correctly imo. The whole balance of the team does change when we play ian. Everyone seems to think he can play at cam because when he plays he likes to drop deep, but that’s just not the same. As much as he does like to drop deep, he’s also good at playing off the last defender, which is very different to Maddison, those two players are not interchangeable without changing the system. As much as madders is out of form, we can’t drop him for ian and expect everything else to be the same.

Its also frustrating that everyone then interprets this as Rodgers hates ian and doesnt understand how good he is. Rodgers is where he is for a reason, and we’re on foxestalk for a reason.

....unless I was reading it wrong, he (Rodgers) was saying to incorporate Nacho into the team in a 3-5-2 we have to make fundamental changes to the team!!!

Yes playing Nacho at #10 is not the same as Maddison playing there and it would  be strange if it wasn't so.

Nacho ought to be one of the first on the team sheet.. holds it up, always available ,brings others into play..creates, scores….

benchwarmer tomorrow then..

This will be an enthralling 1-0 to either team with a goal off someone's arse and a VAR decision to wake most of the ground up.

"If you play with two strikers, it can affect the balance behind that"

We havent really looked balanced with 1 striker though, been battered by almost everyone.

This (his) obsession with a lone striker is so frustrating. It works when the three behind (the "balanced" three) contribute but at the minute they aren't. We have issues on the right side and both Barnes and Maddison have done nothing. I'm all for ditching one of them and getting two up front, especially at home to Burnley. He only went with 2 up front last season because he was forced to do it due to Barnes' injury.

Agree with Maddison but harsh on Barnes

Looking better every game and got a goal and assist vs Napoli

I thought Barnes was better against Napoli but his performances in the league haven't been any good, coming back from injury granted. Hopefully we see him run at the full back tomorrow. I feel he has the pace and ability but doesn't back himself at times.

The main threat Nacho offers is he can score all types of goals from all sorts of positions to have Perez starting or even Madison on current form is absolute brain damage it's shit management tbh

Really don’t understand this bollocks he’s spouting. We’ve been playing a 4-2-3-1 with the ball and a 4-4-2 without the ball with Maddison playing that Number 10/Second striker role.

Why is it bollocks? You literally point out that once you play two strikers you change the balance behind them. Unless I'm missing something he's not saying that change in balance is always bad. But I presume he's wanting to not leave a mid-field balance that Burnley can exploit.

We all know how Bunrley will play. I'm not sure it matters who we have up front if we don't play quick confident one touch football, lots of movement. Move the ball about quickly. But if we don't I fear they'll just slow us right down and then pick us off. They'll get chances from crosses and set-pieces.

I hope we play Nacho and Vardy because both know how to link and have great movement and both can pop up and drag us out of trouble. It's how the rest of the team attack the game and move the ball. I'll feel worried if Mads and Perez plays tbh.

Maddison isn’t playing as a true midfielder so what he says about the balance of the side is bollocks. Where does the second forward mainly receive the ball in a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-4-1-1? They receive the ball in between the lines on the half turn or with their back to goal and look to either drive at the defence or play a cutting pass in behind. All of those requirements are Kel’s strengths. When he came here he said he felt his best position was either as a Number 10 or a second forward. It has been shown in the past that he’s at his best playing off a more predatory striker like Vardy or Daka. He reminds me of Dennis Bergkamp in his style of play.

On the defensive side of the ball, I don’t really agree with the argument that Maddison is better than him defensively. Maddison isn’t renowned as a great presser of the ball or committed in the tackle. Kel is more athletic than him also. Basically I just don’t buy the excuses as to why Brendan is persisting with a player who is woefully out of form and has shown zero signs of improvement, when we’ve got our top goal scorer from last season, who’s bang in form, not getting a game in the big matches.

I want to see a confident performance. We need to move the ball quickly to get them out of position and don't give them time to set their defensive shape. Evans to get 60 mins and then off.

                    Kasper

Ricardo   Evans  Cags   Thomas

             Ndidi     Tielemans

Lookman     Nacho      Barnes

                      Vardy

A very good analysis but easily countered imo by the fact that swapping iheanacho for maddison would be like swapping a traffic cone on the roof for a 4th wheel on a formula 1 racing car at the moment.

Bringing nacho in for maddison gives us 11 men. He can take a shit in the centre circle and spend the rest of the game wiping his arse and we'd be no worse off.

Except that's not what I was getting at. I didn't mention Maddison was better than him in defense either. Unless you're arguing Kel should play an identical position/roll as Maddison (which okay, that's worth debating) playing Nacho with Vardy means you're having to change the formation around to fit that pairing. Therefor there's a balance change. Again that's not valued as either good or bad but has to be taken into consideration given we're playing an opposition team that wants to also win.

The Maddison problem is probably something we won't know the answer to because we don't know the actual cause. It would be stupid for BR to stop playing Maddison, who has shown he can be one of our best and most creative players, if what he needs is consistent time on the pitch, full match fitness and trust shown in him by the manager. I'm not saying this is what's happening or why. None of us know. But while it's easy to have little patience with Mad's at the moment I'm willing to trust BR. Plus am I missing something but Kel has played in every game this season, right?

Could be another referee masterclass tomorrow Chris Kavanagh is the Ref, it’s his first premier league game this season and only his second this season after doing a game in the championship, we have 3 wins from 14 with him and 1 win in 4 games at home, 25 yellows and 2 red cards given out to us

VAR is Jonathon Moss 5 wins in 14, 2 wins out of 7 at home, 18 yellows and 2 red cards given to us
