That is our best side, agreed.

The only thing I would say is that against the more physical teams there is an argument to play 433 instead:

                      Kasper

Ricardo   Evans  Soyuncu  Bertrand

        Tielemans   Ndidi   Soumare

Lookman          Vardy       Barnes

So swap Iheanacho for Soumare. Nacho 100% deserves a place in the team based on how he's playing, but you get more midfield control with the 433 setup. Horses for courses as they say!

I was thinking exactly this the other day.

4411/4241 with Iheanacho when we expect to have more of the ball, 433 with Soumaré when we don't.

Probable exception to that being West Ham, where I'd have played Soumaré and forced them to step to us, even at the expense of making the game a hideously boring spectacle. But that's a different conversation I suppose.

I don't why everyone keeps harping on Kelechi needing to start.  All he does is score goals.

Does far more than score goals he creates space for other players drives with the ball and  creates assists as well.

Would be happy with Soumare in for Nacho as a 4-3-3 as well

That's how I see it too. Those are our current best players in form, with the difference being a stylistic one.

I was surprised we didn't put Soumare in for the West Ham game. Even before the sending off, Fornals, Rice and Soucek were giving us the run around. We should have matched them up / try to get numeric superiority in the middle of the park. After getting battered twice by them last season I agree with your statement about making it a boring game but one we could get something from.

It will be interesting to see what we do versus Liverpool. They play 433 so I'd be tempted to match them with it, though we beat them last season after swapping to the diamond formation after going behind in what was a close game.

Can't wait to watch Perez and Maddison toil until 65 minutes when we're already 1-0 down and Rodgers makes his changes and brings on Nacho and Lookman. The man who has consistently saved our arse the last 6 months, and the new signing who has done more in about 130 minutes as Maddison and Perez has done in 20 games.

Surely, surely, surely we won't see either of them start haha. I mean, if we do, then there's clearly something wrong with Rodgers mentally. Aside from a mass injury crisis I can't think of one good excuse that either of those two get a start.

Get ready with your diagnosis.

People are being too sensible and positive with their proposed line ups, including Lookman and Iheanacho in them. I personally think they should be shoo-ins.

Brendan however I fear will resort to his conservative selection and tactics.

I honestly can’t believe the Bertrand bashing! I think he’s been excellent.

He hasn’t found that link with Barnes, yet, but other than that, I think he’s done well.

That’s what I’d go with, can see wood bullying Soyuncu

Vestergaard hasn’t exactly shown himself to be too strong or physically commanding. He’s tall but gets pushed off the ball too easily and I’m not sure he’s physically any greater than Soyuncu (apart from the obvious height difference)

Someone said today rather than try and find where Iheanacho fits in to this team, shouldn't it be how does the team fit around Iheanacho. i.e. ought we to consider that he is now our most important player?
